Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

To produce that level of performance coming off the back of winning an U20 All Ireland and the Joe Mc Donagh final, with some of our lads on the go for 5/6 weeks is nothing short of heroic. Coming down the stretch today we were a width of a hurl away and a terrible referring decision away from reall...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

Arguably the strongest possible team we could start. Very mean looking Offaly defence, coupled with a deadly inside forward line which will hopefully make use of the wide open spaces of Croke Park. Really looking forward to seeing the young lads get their first taste of Croke Park. Hopefully they li...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

It's nearly 7 weeks since the sides met in Maryborough. It's all well to say that Offaly were cruising and were the better team for the first 50 minutes, but Offaly lost control of the game too for the last 20 minutes and were overrun around the middle in the closing stages. That win will have help...

[quote=greenairfield post_id=71642 time=1717664727 user_id=11705] Will more sections open up in the Cusack and Hogan its a pain in the arse currently trying to get some. Nothing to lose really by waiting another day. Very little of the more central sections ha...

Re: Offaly Under 20s hurling 2024

Point taken Faithfully. There’s still so much scope for the expansion of the game through traditional footballing areas to at least offer the possibility of playing both. All sports science literature points towards a positive correlation between the exposure of kids to multiple sports and their imp...

Re: Offaly Under 20s hurling 2024

Absolutely JohnnyBoy24. For such a club to flourish I’d say adding in Daingean with Rhode, Croghan and Clonmore initially would be the most successful. It would also require some assistance from coaches in more traditional clubs, ensuring the future of Offaly hurling trumps any traditional views in ...

Re: Offaly Under 20s hurling 2024

The level of enthusiasm across the county for hurling is at an all time high. Just passed through the footballing heartlands of Rhode and Croghan, with two lads in their teens carrying hurls over their shoulders, before witnessing three lads of no more than 8/9 in Croghan school out pucking around....

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

Great to see the enthusiasm following the incredible win last weekend is transferring across to the seniors this weekend. It would be great to get similar numbers for the seniors this weekend. Regarding the game, I’d agreed with Doon, having been at the first game in Portlaoise against Laois, it wil...

Re: Offaly Under 20s hurling 2024

Within third level GAA at the highest level, the Fitzgibbon and Sigerson Cup sides, there does exist a snobbery where a bias generally exists towards perceived stronger counties or more traditional counties. There’s also a degree of prioritising players from counties where the institutions are situa...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

Well said faithfulfanatic! We were cruising v Laois until we missed a goal chance to kill the game at one end before Laois worked the ball up for a sucker punch goal at the other end. Small margins. I believe we’ve improved since then, there’s serious momentum building within the side. Just as the U...

Re: Offaly Under 20s hurling 2024

Excellent win for u20s and it really wasn't in any doubt for long periods of the match. Huge crowds which I hope will travel to croke park at the weekend. I would be less optimistic about offaly contesting leinster and all irelands at senior level. Its incredibly difficult. You need all players to ...

Re: Offaly Under 20s hurling 2024

Brilliant summary Pat, very well said. Saturday was the culmination of five years of work on the behalf of Leo and the management team and as a county we are indebted to him for what he has done for Offaly hurling. The entire management team deserve immense credit, as it’s evident just how far this ...

Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2024

Have we truly asked the question as to whether the talent needed to compete is actually there at present? If the answer to that is yes, then it’s clearly a psychological issue or a question of a poor attitude amongst the players? It’s multi factorial, but having watched the club championships in Off...

Re: Offaly Under 20s hurling 2024

As a county, once again, we stand upon the eve of an All Ireland Final. The fourth consecutive year that we’ve appeared in an underage All Ireland Final. At seven fifteen tomorrow, just north of the banks of the River Nore, this side once again has a date with destiny. Another chance to take its pla...
