“The Irish Sports Magazine has learned that several of Cork’s Senior Hurling team suffered from a bout of food-poisoning in the immediate run-up to the All-Ireland final. However, the Rebels, who suffered a three-point defeat to archrivals Kilkenny, are anxious not to use this unfortunate incident as an excuse for their loss.
A source within the Cork Hurling camp stated, “Fair play to Kilkenny, they were the better team on the day and fully deserved their victory. Yes, it’s true that a couple of the boys were feeling a bit off but apparently so too was Cha Fitzpatrick so these things always kind of balance themselves out. It definitely wasn’t the reason why we lost”. The source declined to reveal the identities of those who had suffered from the aforementioned affliction.
However, as a large number of Cork’s star performers appeared to lack their trademark spark in Hurling’s showpiece event, Corkonians everywhere are sure to wonder if their treble dreams were in fact thwarted by an undercooked team meal.”
