Leinster Club Hurling Championship

Post by Géill Slí »

Starting another thread because the “Leinster club championship” thread seems to be dominated by the footballers (and best of luck to Tullamore, Clonbullogue and Ballinagar in their upcoming fixtures). But to the hurling, and in particular Kilcormac Killoughey this Sunday vs St Mullins in Carlow. I see KK are strong favourites with the bookies, you can get 7/2 on St Mullins in most outlets. I see this one a hell of a lot closer than that, and our club has experienced first hand just how difficult the Saints are to beat. Will Cillian Kuely be fit? KK might need him. I still think the KK forwards have more than enough for the St Mullins backs, but the St Mullins forward line is formidable too, and will take some containing.
If KK stop St. Mullins’ goal threat (and in Mouse Kavanagh, Paddy Boland and Conor Keogh they have plenty of that) then KK to prevail by 5 or 6. I don’t see that it will be easy at all, though, and the longer St Mullins stay in the game, the bigger their threat … as Cuala found a couple of years ago.

Tough game for the double Ks. in Carlow. Clonbullogue were beaten by Garrycastle, in the Leinster club championship last Saturday.

Clodagh Gaels fairly well outclassed there. Persisted with a short passing game, but the touch or handling just wasn’t there in slippy conditions. You’d imagine Lisdowney will take some beating.

I am not surprised by Lisdowney’s victory today but not by 19 points. They led 12-4 at ht. and got 3-11 after the break they added 3-11 to 1-6 for CG.
Lisdowney probably favs to win Leinster. Back to club fare for the Gaels next year.

Just my opinion but I'd be stunned if it's not either Lisdowney or Watergrasshill winning this All-Ireland. Cashel won't be bad, Tooreen have gone back a bit and I think Tynagh-Abbey/Duniry might take them, but outside of that, I don't think anyone else will be anywhere close.

Borris/Kilcotton gave a bit of a trimming to Fr. Dalton's today, they might be able to give Lisdowney a game since they have home advantage for that semi next week, but more than likely that'll be an 8-10pt win for Lisdowney as well, and I expect the Leinster final to be no different.

Ah, Castletown Geoghegan must be red hot favourites to win that. Didn't just bate the Kilkinny champions, they bate d'shyte out of them.

Oh they will. But the market is going to follow the money which is going to come from outsiders who don't know the local scene.

My take is that Castletown Geoghegan have just beaten the Kilkenny champions, beat them well, are the team playing at the top of their game, and the match is at a Westmeath venue. Radio 3 will build them up all week too. The pressure of expectation is on them and not on Killoughey.

Kk are favourites. No one can dispute that. Ctg with a great win and it will be as tough as the the match today vs mullins. Kk to win by 5-8 points
