They won't fear Offaly given games they have played v offaly in last few years, particularly last year in championship when they physically bullied Offaly off the field. Carlow can't make final but relegation if they lose is still possibility so they have everything still to play for. Offaly need to turn up for this game.
Carlow can still make it into the 2nd vs 3rd playoff if they win their last two games potentially leapfrogging us or Kerry if we lose both

Weather will turn it into a battle on Sunday and need to pick the team accordingly.

Weather will probably suit Carlow better. It will need a big Offaly effort.

Next week will tell the tale of whether we’ve progressed or not. Kildare have been far and away the most impressive team in this division, the winner of that game should go straight up.

It’s ridiculous that we could beat Kildare and then lose to them a couple of weeks later in the final, could be knocked out in the semi or final by Kerry despite beating them a couple of weeks ago or we could lose to Kildare next week and still get promoted in a few weeks ourselves…

Fair play to the lads today. Looked to be the better team all day based on what i was hearing on d’radio. Fair play to ben con togging out after what must have been a big night for his brother.

Think most people suspected the weather to suit carlow so it was great to see our lads stand up to them. Similar to the footballers, we don’t breed big hurlers.

Not for nothing, but said I’d do a bit of digging and compare the first team of mick fennellys first league with todays. Savage turnover of players for such a small county. More than anything else we need to stop the haemorrhaging playing talent. In fairness we are doing well to be where we are given our inability to retain and build upon emerging talent.

Offaly were the better team on a miserable day. Carlow started about 5 subs, they got stuck in.
Offaly found it hard at times to put scores on the board. Carlow moved the ball well, they missed a few scores, and had 2 players red carded, and a mentor. Kildare up next on 19th. Winner qualifies for the league final.

We got our first goal in division 2A today 2 minutes into added time and against 13 men at that stage.. a win is a win all the same... David Herrity has Kildare ticking and it will be interesting to see how we fair against a team who even back in the 1980s when we were considered all Ireland contenders we always seemed to struggle against them when they would have been considered lower opposition, we played them in Division 2 a few times and won but few games were close enough..

The county team is a symptom of the club championship. Lack of creativity, cuteness, in game mgt is all too apparent in the club championship, hence the poor return at intercounty level.

In fairness, can we point to any other county of similar resources trying to balance both codes and say we’re a million miles off it?

People will point at westmeath and laois and antrim and say they are having a comparative golden period hurling wise. Fair play to them. Theres 0 chance any of them will ever win a leinster or an all ireland, which we were doing when we were in our pomp. Would we be any better off taking routine maulings in div 1 than trying to build the foundations of a unit that can survive at that level? If this group is capable of what we are seeing, do we really think the best 15 in the county were they available that theyd be that far off laois westmeath and antrim? Fair play to the lads they’re playing to the level of the opposition but i think there’s lots to admire in there. I do think there’s better hurlers in the county but until such a time that they’re willing to commit then we should back whats in there giving theyre all.
