I know once children get past U10 hurling, ground hurling becomes more or less redundant, apart from maybe three positions on the field - goalie, full back and full forward.Plain of the Herbs wrote:Offaly people love it. Oul fellas in the crowd love it. Women in the crowd love it. It doesn't involve running. It doesn't involve thinking your way around the field. It turns over possession, It passes responsibility to someone else, It doesn't involve soloing, or handpassing, or any of those modern fads.
Now you know why Offaly hurling is the dead duck it is.Turenne wrote:...why in god's name would they be doing ground hurling?
The likes of Clare have decided to implement strict small sided games at Under 8, 10 and 12, as directed by their full time staff.
Under 8 is going to 7 a side.
I think this is a great idea and is one area Offaly could implement overnight to improve the playing and learning outcomes for one age group across the county.
Check out Clare GAA's facebook page.
They seem to have courses on EVERY week, a weekly coaching column and general coaching and games news from around the county. It is pretty impressive
