Minor Championship

Post by In the long grass »

I know it is already underway but Im just wondering the format. I have seen the 2 groups on the Offaly GAA with one group seemingly a lot tougher than the other. Does anybody know how many come out from both groups?? Surely Ferbane will be crowned champions after dominating throughout the various age groups with this team? Does anybody know when the last time Ferbane won a minor championship?

Finally I heard St. Vincents overcame Na Fianna in the league semi final last night by a point after extra time. Does anbody know the outcome of the other semi final between Ferbane and Tullamore?

Ferbane won 3-9 to 1- 9 last night in other semi.Very bad conditions for a match to be played in but ferbane will still have to do a lot to be even gauranteed getting out of the group in championship.

1991 is the last time Ferbane/Belmont won a minor title. It was the third of a 3 in a row.

Great win for St. Vincents! Clara seem to be the only team who have very little chance of qualifying. Other group is very open.

St. Vincents won the minor league this evening, beating Ferbane/Belmont on a scoreline of 1-14 to 1-7. Brilliant team performance by the Daingean parish team. Hopefully they can push on for the championship.

And sure listen, we can all look forward to them playing at the highest level for a while longer, bar the joke that is the u21 championship, and we can all watch them fall from fine footballers to average junior players in a few years. great. I dream of a parish team :?

Great result for St Vincents last night. This championship is shaping up very nicely now, should be some really good games in the knockout stages.

Any word on Joey O'Connor's injury last week? Rynaghs would be one of the front runners for this championship but he'd be a massive, massive loss.

Again the "intelligent" county board have announced a change in the format of the championship... Originally the top 3 teams would go through (top team to a semi and the other two to a quarter final). Tonight na fianna knew if they beat St.Rynaghs they would get 3rd place and go through. So they go out play out of their skin and beat the rynaghs champions by 6 points before being told that only two teams are going through now and their efforts meant nothing. this is surely an effort to save money and to speed up the championship and wrap it all up.. Its lookin now like St.Vincents, Ferbane, St.Broughans and Edenderry will enter into the semi finals, with Tullamore and Na Fianna losing out on the ability to compete. With rynaghs gone now, the championship is shaping up very interesting. hehehehehehehehehehe... High School Musical is an awful clown altogether hahahaha id love to meet ya head on in a Junior match where boys become men. id knock the gay smile clean off your face!

Where the hell did that come out of?
Your brand of football sounds like it would be well suited to playing in the States.
I can't say I agree with your glamorisation of the Junior Championsip either.
Boyz II Men themselves didn't play any Junior championship (I'm 99% sure of that one) and they turned out just fine.
And anyway, you wouldn't get close enough to my gay smile in a match to do anything about it. It wouldn't do your reputation any good to get the runaround from a fairy like me now would it. Then again, if you are from Ballycommon it probably wouldnt do your reputation any harm!

How can the county board in two instances this year change the format of the championships mid way through the competitions??? It has already happened in Minor and Junior B. Will any more competitions be affected??

Crazy stuff and utterly unfair to the teams involved. You'd really have to ask, who wants this? It might suit Ferbane/Belmont and Edenderry to get straight through to a semi final but even they wouldn't have minded playing a quarter I imagine.

There's no time pressure on these competitions, it really makes no sense.

In the spirit of "ask and you shall receive", I posed the question to the powers that be as to what happened here.

Basically this wasn't changed, it was always two teams going through and was voted and minuted as such. These two championships were decided at a different meeting due to the questions over participants, but the rules were emailed to all secretaries.

The issue arose because some incorrect info was verbally given to some clubs by a committee member who was mistaken and thought that last year's rules still applied. You have human error there, and you have human error in that you have club secretaries either failing to read or else failing to pass on communication.
