This is a game we can win

Limerick did give us trouble in the league match.

This game will probably be in the Gaelic grounds, it will be tough but it could have been an awful lot worse.

It's a good game for both sides in the sense that both teams will feel that they can win, but neither side should be remotely complacent, since they've generally been evenly matched the few times they've met, including in the league this year.

Our lads will have to be on their guard in the sense that there appears to be a consensus emerging that Offaly should win this game, which I think is very dangerous. Limerick came very close to putting Cork out of the All Ireland race last year and while the loss of John Galvin is a blow, even if he's worth 3/4 points, that still leaves them as a very decent outfit, all the more so at home.

Having said all that, it's a good game to take the next step and hopefully keep the chart moving in the right direction.

While the other Round 2 qualifiers were fixed today, the Offaly v Limerick one was left open.

No panic. If Limerick hurlers beat Wexford next Saturday, and they should, they will be involved again on Saturday 9th. Phase 3 hurling qualifiers are held at a neutral venue (at least they were for the last 3 years), and with the possibility of a Limerick v Antrim pairing which would probably be played in Dublin, in that case the Limerick footballers would probably be fixed to play on the other day.

Limerick on a sunny summer's evening is a very difficult place to play in.

The low setting sun shines straight down the field from the Caherdavin End. It would be very tough on anyone facing into that sun.

Fixture confirmed, 2pm throw in at the Gaelic Grounds, as part of a double header with the hurling, Cork vs Galway, immediately after at 4pm.

Not sure whether the double header is a good or a bad thing since it'll probably lead to a higher cost, but I'll be happy to see both anyway!

No harm to get the Gaelic Grounds either - I'd prefer that to NCW or Kilmallock.

want to give yerself two hours door to door from tullamore, 2 and half from edenderry where you can go down the motorway bypassing roscrea and nenagh, there is a new bypass around city, take first exit for castletroy off new road. head in past anacotty and ul to park way roundabout where you keep right/straight, second exit. go straight till next roundabout and take right here for shannon airport, itll bring over the river and around past thomond park and you can park up handy and avoid the cork, galway and kerry side of limerick which will draw in the limerick fans...lads have every chance.. should be a good crowd in...
