Scandalous perfoamance by Offaly too much fluting around and we missed a rake of scoreable frees is there nobody in Offaly who is a consisitent freetaker.John Reynold stupidy got involved in an off the ball incident near the end and had a very scoreable free in front of goals reversed by the ref, McNamee missed a free from 20 yards out near the death aswell and then frustratingly scored a brilliant point a minute or so later .Both these mistakes cost us badly. Our defence is poor and were cut wide open on too many occassions too much space between the half back and full back lines for Tipp players to run into

I just think its beggars belief that they looked at the useless, talentless John Coughlan for so long. It was a disgrace that Connor wasn't brought on went Smith went down in the 1st place. McNamee and McManus were shocking with the frees and overall it was just a dreadful, disgraceful performance in general.

First post, said i would after another frustrating performance. john reynolds indiscipline has cost badly, a point today would have put us in a decent position with a great chance of promotion. he really should not be rewarded for his stupid mistake by being given a stating place in waterford. Ciaran mc manus absolute servant to the cause his commitment should be commended but how many seasons are we going to watch trying to win the kisk fada with his frees, surely after 17 seasons he knows his range as a free taker. Iv seen casey, reynolds,mc manus, darby, allen, connor and even mc namee have great games as free takers at different levels but can we not just try stick to maybe two free takers try to get some consistency out of them. As poor as we were if we had a good a day with the frees we would have won comfortably. Sullivan looked a bit off the pace and I thought he would get sent off. Niall Smith injury was a big loss, Dalton looked out of depth again, Coughlan well out below the pace of the game. Sean Ryan who I have always admired as a footballer was poor. The change of Dunne for Connor should have been a lot earlier or preferably started that way. I have heard all the excuses about resting the under 21s but surely we should have picked connor and allen, tried to build up a lead and make changes in the second half if neccessary. Such a dissapointing performance and Cribbens selections are hard to defend, I hope he just makes a point of punishing Reynolds indiscipline and stops the perception that he is too lenient on the players.

yes they never learn he wouldn't get a kick in a horse box coughlan wouldn't and still they pick him
all you have to do is look at the fullback line they are there to be took to the cleaners and thats why we will
stay a division 3 team because the lads that are playing are that level.

would have to blame management for today, tipp crouded out our forwards and exposed our fullback line.they had no plan b and just played into tipps hands.dont forget offaly have been playing like this all year, lucky to have won games against limerick and louth, need better management to make quick and better decisions.

With Louth losing, Offaly had a great chance of going into the promotion driving seat.
Now the campaign ends with two tricky away matches:

The reality is that Div 3 is where this team belongs. The only teams currently in Div 2 that Offaly could live with are last years Div 3 promoted and this years Div 2 relegation candidates Sligo and Antrim, I dont know whats going on with Meath. After winning two tight games I thought a corner had been turned but yesterdays result just confirms nothing much has changed really.

Depressing.

Very very poor display. As an earlier poster put it, there can be no excuses. Tipp are an improving side but in all honesty we should be beating them by 5 or 6 points pulling up. The backline looked totally at sea, not working as a unit at all. Midfield is embarrassing. And in attack its all over the place. Sean Ryan is struggling for form. I think he will come good but hopefully that will be soon. Ken Casey not producing the goods, he has been a real let down after promising so much. Nigel Dunne is out of his depth and Reynolds well I dont need to say anything really at this stage, terrible.

What can be done with the midfield? I always thought Id like to see Scott Brady getting a good run out there but that wont happen. Its such a massive problem area.

Long John just a few points Sean Ryan has been on the panel this 5 year's if he didn't make it bye now he won't
he would be better off in with the hurler's which he is better at well that's jusy my opinion.

as for our midfield well me might not be to bad if he played Brian Connor and Smith from Gracefield there instead of Dalton and Coughlan
as for Scott Brady to slow for midfield it madness putting him fullback even never forgave him for dropping the ball for Ross Munnnelly to
score the goal for laois in croker a few year's ago.

John reynold's might not be everyones cup of tea and wouldn't be a lover of him myself but there one thing he does do when he plays
for offaly and that is he always chips in with a few scores which most forwards on the offaly panel can't do.

as for Ken Casey never done it on the big day for the Minors in leinsters or under 21's so why think he can do it when senior sad but true..

Townman, id have to agree with you about Sean Ryan. I think he's a better hurler than footballer myself. The one thing I will say however is he gives that honest effort in the football. I admire him alot for that and he has good pace. His lack of height goes against him alot I think. I know he may be reasonable strong but alot of the county teams at present have plenty of tall men around the area's of the field where he would line out. I would like to see him in with the hurlers again. Nigel Dunne likewise looks totally at sea with the county footballers and Ive said it before if he gave the hurling a good rattle he'd be worth a call up.

The reason I say Scott Brady for midfield is ive seen him carry Clara in many the big game from midfield. I know county level is a completely different standard but I think he's better than Dalton and Coughlan. I know his pace might not be great but no worse than whats there. And yes that munnelly goal will haunt us for a long long time.

I wont comment on reynolds, Ive said it plenty of times. Yes he does get a score or two but it the possession he wastes or fails to win that drives me loopy. I thought he was dreadful on Sunday but there was plenty others equally as bad to be fair.

Offaly aren't short of midfield options, whereas 4 or 5 years ago, when Alan McNamee was about the only recognised midfield specialist.
Now there is Smith, Connor, Dalton, Coughlan and even McManus can do a stint there.
While they all wouldn't be considered marquee players, it at least gives management the option to substitute midfielders if they aren't going well.

Full back is a trickier spot and if you take Scott Brady away, there isn't a queue of obvious replacements.
