Na Fianna Senior hurling

Post by As Such Ger »

I see on the hoganstand site that one of the motions passed at the Killeigh AGM was:

"a motion from Na Fianna underage, that a Senior Hurling team be established in the parish, called Na Fianna. This motion was passed unanimously."

How does that work does anyone know? If all the clubs in the parish pass the motion and a team is formed, would they go straight into the Senior C'ship and the individual clubs play in their current grade, or would they all have to play under the Na Fianna banner and enter a few teams to cater for everyone (senior, intermediate, junior)? Or would it be a case that they would start out at a lower grade and have to work their way up the ladder.

They would probably have to all play for just one club, like what happens in Brosna Gaels, unless they are looking for permission to enter a divisional team in the senior championship. They would possibly be brought in at Intermediate level as they already have teams at that grade.

As far as I'm aware, NA fianna, would play in the senior and then Killeigh, Raheen etc. would continue in the junior championship.Could see them approaching other clubs in the locality too. It would a big boost for club hurling in North Offaly!

That would then make them a divisional team in effect. It would be a major challenge to fixture makers in the current formats, but as you say it would give a boost to hurling in north offaly

I see this has been knocked on the head by Killurin and Raheen, the other clubs in the parish.
