We're coming across a bit like a poor man's Cork with this dispute. I hope whoever takes charge manages to get some decent performances out of this lot. There's only so many times you can blame the manager/county board. Once a team crosses the white line onto the pitch, it's up to them to perform. Some of the gutless performances this team has put in have been a disgrace. Perhaps doing a Gerald McCarthy and putting out a completely new team is a bit over the top but they can't be any worse than this shower.

Does anybody have any idea what will happen or what is the established protocol for situations such as these? Could an interim management be appointed this quickly or will the County Board Chairman (Pat Teehan) have to step in for a few days?
id like to see phil reilly and tom coffee as an interim management im sure they could steady the ship until we hopefully get stephen darby in .but knowing the current county board we have it wont be as simple as that .
great history hoping for a better future

He isn't going quietly! :D
He is probably right that the craic is going out of playing inter county football.
However nowadays players can't be expected to compete without very thorough and well organised preparation either.

Connor wary of "professional mentality"
10 February 2009

Richie Connor is fearful that the player revolts that have rocked both Offaly and Cork recently could become a more common occurrence in the GAA.

The 1982 All-Ireland winning captain was forced to quit as Offaly football manager on Sunday after the players issued a vote of no confidence in him and his selectors Ollie Daly and Mark Plunkett.

He said: "I think that the GAA is heading towards a professional mentality. Fellas are being caught up in being an inter-county player and not about playing. It is more about getting the gear bag than getting the county jersey for a lot of fellas. For them, all of that side stuff is more important than producing on the day of the game.

"Times have changed. Players have more and more issues now in the county teams away from playing. They are caught up with issues about pitches, gear and tickets for matches.

"No one is doubting that. But there are ways and means of doing things. Fellas should realise that all of this stuff is peripheral to the core business of what they should be concentrating on."

He bemoaned the state of the inter-county game, adding: "The old genuine craic is gone. It is all more superficial now."
