Ok experts who's the man for the football job??

I'm going with Luke Dempsey, He's an intelligent guy, experienced at county level, knows the offaly scene and he brought Westmeath and Longford from nowhere to decent competitors.

I just dont think Darby or Connor are up to it and O'Reilly is a bit young yet.

I'd like to see the likes of Finbarr Cullen and Vinny Claffey or possibly Darby or Connor in as selectors though.. there all familiar with the Offaly style of play and that is important after what we witnessed versus westmeath.

Any comments?

can see where your coming from with dempsey, agree with all you said about him.
however this team needs a strong hand at the minute, i know gary connaughton wrote an article in the sunday independent on morning of leinster semi final, saying dempsey was a good guy, good coach, modern approach etc, but that he let alot of indiscipline go during his reign, he claimed alot of drinking and missed training sessions occured and dempsey turned a blind eye to alot of this.
he said when o shea came in this was not acceptable anymore and the law was laid down, eg flanagan lost a leinster medal because of lack of commitment.
i also agree about selectors and our style v westhmeath.
i just think its not a good group of players for a manager like that to take over.
i guess id like to see a list from kernan down to tommy carr with no stone left unturned to get the right man .
i imagine we will get another chump in charge , for once prove me wrong county board please.

Ollie Daly was wheeling his shopping trolley across Tesco car park when he noticed an old lady struggling with her shopping.
He stopped and asked, "Can you manage dear?" to which the old lady replied, "No way, you got yourself into this mess, don't ask me to sort it out!"

Dont really understand all this clamour to get Luke dempsey in. He is not the strongest personality and although I didn`t read the Connaughton article I remember working in Mullingar at the time and hearing constantly of troubles in the squad, not to much unlike our own. Likewise Tommy Carr resided over a period in Roscommon when there was issues within the squad so maybe he is not the way to be going either. We are going to need a really strong personalityI honestly can`t come up with someone that could tick all the boxes, is available and who would actually want the job. Who are we going to end up with? God only knows, but one thing I am sure of is the county board will go for the person least expected.

And he's originally from Carbury.. a man from Carbury managing the Offaly footballers would be be too much for anyone around our neck of the woods to take..

You think wrong - originally from Carbury Co. Kildare but his family did up sticks and move to Carlow when he was a kid.

no new manager and do away with the selectors altogether,. pick 35 lads based on their performance and consistency in this years championship both senior and u21and not on past merits.for the chosen few ,trash out a contract citing dedication and commitment for 12 months, those players who are not willing 2 partake can be replaced. get a director of football solely responsible for team selection .paul o kelly comes to mind , agreat football mind and a shrewd tactition also qualified in management and physical education professionaly and also 2 coaching specialists, one for backs and one for forwards someone who has played at the highest level and can read the game, then a qualified fitness instructor someone who knows about everything nutrition to psycology to get the lads in proper shape .this might be one solution

Apart from Micko Dwyer, has a football manager ever tasted (relative) success in a span of more than five years with two different counties?

Look at the likes of Maughan, O'Mahony and LUKE Dempsey - they didn't do much when they came back into new counties after years out. I don't know if we are better getting a man that had some success a few years back and bank on him doing well again. It's like an old horse, he won some races before. But I think it's a promising young manager who had success at club level is the man to pull in. Like a young horse that has done well in some novice races, as opposed to some old guy wheezing around. In summary we shouldn't go near anyone who has managed somewhere else and failed, or maybe even succeeded.

What about intermediate, junior A and B. Theres quality footabllers at these levels but due to politics they never get a chance.

offaly has a junior team to cater for those players . and i think it would be fairly easy for an above average player to stand out at that level, but to bypass senior club level and into a senior county panel would have to be a unique talent. i am afraid it shud be senior county for senior players only in order to compete with the top teams in the country

Your an example of whats wrong with offaly football, all ye care about is senior club players. I can guarantee you that ther are at least 4 teams in intermediate level that would beat at least 5 of the teams in the senior championship. What your saying is that any player playing at junior and intermediate should only play for offaly juniors. Players at these levels put in as much effort in training and comitment as most players in senior.
Last saturday all starting 15 bar 1 (james coughlan) play senior club level, and look how great they played. Useless!!!

Have to agree with the man here. red exile your talking rubbish. what about sean ryan etc.
By your logic nicky english wudnt have played for tipperary, dj carey and pat o neil didnt always play senior club hurling in kilkenny and yet played for the senior hurlin county team.
Of course we would rather have every senior player playing senior club, but this is not always possible.
Were a small county and we should play the best players in offaly whether there club is junior b or senior champions.
realistically there has been very few rounds of either club football and hurling played so these guys arent missing out on too much.
