Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
I suppose it will be Sligo or Wexford at home .
Let's hope the lads are rested and fighting fit .
Let's get to the semi finals and a day out at croke park

Worst draw possible wexford beat westmeath and drew with down this year. Is there hot balls in these draws or what we keep getting toughest teams

worst possible? a home game and we will be favourites?
Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
It's a home draw against Wexford. Thats not a bad draw. What are lads complaining about. They an ok team but are no world beaters. We were able to beat Down and Clare and that would justify us to be favourites.

Yes, it is in the best interests of the GAA to ensure Offaly get a hard drawBehindthegoal wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2026 9:31 am Worst draw possible wexford beat westmeath and drew with down this year. Is there hot balls in these draws or what we keep getting toughest teams

Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
It's the worst draw we could have gotten in that we were going to be at home anyway and Wexford are a very physically strong, balanced team with a lot of power across the middle third, which is not ideal from our point of view. Down are still the best team in this competition in my opinion, but obviously we couldn't have drawn them.
That said, I think the earlier tough draws (in games where there was a safety net) were exactly what this Offaly team needed, as much to boost their confidence as anything. And if you're going to win this competition, it's no harm to be able to take on Wexford on your home field, as opposed to maybe getting an easier draw and then having to take them on at the semi-final stage in Croke Park, which they've already played in in 2026 and so would have a bit of experience.
I was in Carrick-on-Shannon for the game on Saturday and Wexford completely controlled it, don't be fooled by the final score. Players like Niall Hughes, Páiric Hughes and Glen Malone are very strong up and down the pitch and well able to score heavily, Eoghan Nolan is an excellent centre back (albeit he went off injured, interesting to see how he fares) and Liam Coleman, who is a serious fielder at the middle, got away with one when the referee gave him black and red cards rather than a straight red for what was a pretty clear striking incident against Conor Quinn at the end.
I wouldn't say with any confidence that we'll be favourites, I'd expect the betting to be pretty close to 50/50, but if we want to win the competition, then in the interests of knocking over a strong contender on home soil, this was a good draw.

Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
On the button again LS. Management will be looking at this game in the same way that you are.
Wexford best us down there a few years ago under John Maughan, and hammered us in Tulamore after that (not sure if that year also). This is where the real pressure kicks in now as there is no safety net.
I'd be worried how we adapt after the break as that is often the biggest barrier to performance. If the heads are not 100% right we will not win this. A one pt win is all we need to grind out here.
On the positive side, we will have benefitted from the 2 tough games to date. Wexford won't bring much of a crowd and if our shower of "faithful
" can muster the willpower to show up and support the team, hopefully we can get to the semi final.
Big one in Portlaoise too with Laois or Down going out. I think Laois could do it. Be a good Laois crowd, especially after the hurlers winning.
Fermanagh to beat Sligo, and Antrim to beat Wicklow.

Lads do ye follow football outside of offaly games? It absolutely was the worst possible draw
We had three options
Wexford Sligo Wicklow
Wexford are absolutely the worst outcome here if you dont understand that i’d find it hard to take anythinh you say about football seriously

Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
Was in. London for the Sligo game
London poor enough didn't score for 15 . minutes
We have to beat the good teams to win the competition so Wexford are a good team but can still get to them
1pm is a silly time
Do we all have to be back in our padded cells by 6
I think Wicklow could beat Antrim
The had the dubs on the block and let them off .
Let's get a good crowd and hopefully get a Day out at HQ for the semi finals

15/8 wexford would appear good value LS - taking away the follow your heart narrativeLone Shark wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2026 11:06 am

Re: Offaly Senior Football 2026
Wexford really put it up to Down in the League final and obvoiously grounded out that win with last minute goal v Westmeath - 2/1 with Boyles
