Yesterday.
There improving id settle for Antrim away
A trip to Belfast is always good fun

Probably end up with Tipperary
Offaly playing the Leinster hurling standard bearers in a crucial game in Tullamore and SuperHans ends up 2 and a half hours away at a Tailteann Cup game between 2 of the weakest sides in the country!

There really is no predicting what you’ll do next, fair play

not sure of Superhans or whatever his name is first sport is, maybe he was down that way on other travel and went to the football, not sure of what way any of these draws go in either championship now or Tailteann, one wouldnt want a whole pile going on in their lives to be fully upto speed with what way it goes next...if we did get London, if they are still in it, it would be a tricky game...they had a decent league be it in the basement...we are living in their attic next year so wouldnt be getting carried away after one win v fellow attic occupier :D

I didn’t get to the game but one thing I’d make a point of is the reaction of Jack McEvoy and Dylan Hyland on RTE’s terrible highlights package at the end of the game. Think it shows that despite a tough season, the lads are going all out to do their best in this competition and will no doubt get a burst of energy and confidence from that win.

Tough home draw, but going in as presumable underdogs might suit us, as someone said earlier.

Down will be favourites to beat Leitrim, unless the whole show in Down has collapsed after their collapse against Armagh, other side of the coin is they will be a wounded animal V Leitrim and Offaly if they get over Leitrim, they certainly wont be afraid of Offaly. Leitrim played well in Connaught, interesting to see how that form carries in the 2nd tier competition.

Down at home is a tough draw but they will have the quick turnaround

Actually a great draw. Get a test against the best team in the competition at home. Safety net of a preliminary quarter final if we lose.

Fully agree. And a great motivational game for us too.

Listening to Johnny Kelly on eoghan cahill and speaking how he trained his butt off right thru the league despite in Johnny's words not getting next nor near a starting spot for a team who at the time were losing every game and people thought would be in a shoot out with Kildare for relegation .......some of our young and old footballers could take note who threw in the towel because they weren't starting for our footballers

Seeing Westmeath win Leinster today

One would question where are offaly at

A decent show last year followed by a very poor year to date with exception beating Clare.

Very poor Leinster final Dublin had no plan B Westmeath did simple things best.

Offaly truly never built on the under 20 all Ireland the way the hurling has benefited the senior squad.

Plagued by injuries didn't help this year.
You would be expecting to finally try and get the hands on a tealteann cup anything other than that would mean regression.

Interesting you say that.
I thought today, as I listened to Mark McHugh speak after the final whistle, if we had Mark McHugh over us rather than Declan & Mickey what position would we be in ??
The players all seem to have the attitude they’d die for McHugh and all so close. We, on the contrary, seem the opposite.

I would argue also we have produced a far greater talent of footballer in Offaly the last few years pound for pound, but yet they are the ones climbing the Hogan today, and not us unfortunately. Credit to Westmeath where it’s due, but I hope our county chairman and selection committee think about this too when they meet this winter when they’re deciding their next move.

It's quite clear that the hurling management has been able to foster a positive group chemistry within a squad that players enjoy engaging with and want to be part of, in stark comparison to football management. Little or nobody has willingly left that hurling panel.

If an amateur player is not enjoying being part of any team environment, for whatever reason, they are not going to stay. That is the biggest challenge for any management and appears to me to be main difference between both hurlung and football groups. Both groups had similar sets of league results. Through all the losses, one group has been able to uphold positivity through their group environment so that likes of Eoin Cahill stayed involved, while other appears to be polar opposite, where too many negative vibes and stories have come out of that camp. Maybe some of our younger and older members of football management should take note for future roles, so that so many of their players do not disengage with their management style.

Did Westmeath not get the memo about not having a big enough population to win provincial titles? Surely they should have just thrown in the towel once Ronan O'Toole went to Australia and Luke Loughlin got injured? Sure Leinster is a waste of time for everyone outside of Dublin?

If you subscribe to some of the nonsense peddled earlier in this thread, you might believe the above. Anyone with a bit of sense knew otherwise.

Fair play to Westmeath, final score reflected their superiority.

Westmeath full credit for their win today. A brilliant display of football against not a bad Dublin team just because they are not as strong as they were they still take some beating with the calibre of players they have.
It just goes to show what a manager with a good set up and a bit of tactical knowledge can do for a county it just goes to show it’s not rocket science.
Hope we get a good display ourselves at the weekend. We have nothing to fear and it should be a cracking game if we apply ourselves correct.
