Hard to understand then why that game was re-organised? Was there anyone else involved?

There was a vacancy in Offaly's defence following Cathal Parlon's hand injury and Pat Camon would have been one of those in the running to fill in. As it happened, Derek Morkan was sufficiently recovered from his foot injury to take that place, but looking at the list of subs for the Kilkenny match, Camon, Seán Gardiner and David King are the only defenders named therein. And Gardiner came on late in the game against Waterford.

Pat Donegan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.

I cannot understand how the Senior Hurling Team Management were allowed to cancel a senior football championship game which caused an inconvenience for a minimum of 30 club players and yet had a training match of their own. Surely Pat Camon had the same risk of injury in a hurling training match as he would have had if he was allowed to play in the senior club football game. The County Board should take back control of senior club football fixtures from the management of the Senior Hurling team. Were any members of the Offaly Senior Hurling panel allowed to play Senior Club Football that weekend????.
