Committing to a venue months in advance, other than Croke Park, without knowing who will contest the final is rather foolish to say the least. An U20 final between Cork v Kilkenny for example May attract 5,000 people (max), whereas, any game involving this Offaly group will attract upwards of 20,000.
Considering that we brought over 19/20,000 ro Portlaoise, midweek for a Leinster Final, you can only imagine we’d be in a position to sell out Nowlan Park at 27,000 on our own. Add to that Tipperary hurling is in a bit of a decline at senior level and quickly the significance of this final for them takes on greater meaning.
Demand for this game, could conceivably reach up to 40,000, in which case, 13,000 could be denied the chance to watch their side play in an All Ireland final. Something which would be a travesty for both counties.
