1.Seamus Kelly - Shamrocks
Seamus Kelly came on as an outfield sub for Shamrocks in the 2000 county final.
I remember he was wearing a jersey with no number that was slightly different than the other jersies.

He did. And played out the field in other years when Padraig took the number 1 jersey.

Just to clarify, this is a listing of players that did not make a County Final appearance between 88-98.

It would be great to see some of the county final line ups actually.
I'd say Kieran Rigney and Richie Connor would be worth their place on the non players team.
Did Johnny Mooney play for Rhode in the 1989 final?

The best 15 NOT to have played in a County Final.

1.Seamus Kelly - Shamrocks
2.Willie Ryan - Doon
3.Paul Mulvihill - Killeigh-Raheen
4.Daisy Foley - Ballyfore
5.John Kenny - Daingean (now Tullamore)
6.Tom Coffey - Ballyfore (C)
7.Darren Quinn - Clonbullogue
8.Ronan Mooney - Shamrocks
9.Ciaran McManus - Tubber
10.Jody Quinn - Ballycumber
11.Frank Weir - Bracknagh
12.Sonny Lynam - Erin Rovers
13.Vinnie Claffey - Doon
14.David Claffey - Doon
15.David Connolly - Bracknagh

Subs:
16.Niall Bryant - Shamrocks
17.Kieran McEvoy - Gracefield
18.Donie Ryan - Doon
19.Paddy Stones - Rhode
20.Padraig Kelly - Shamrocks
21.Garrett O'Brien - Shamrocks
22.Barney O'Brien - Ballinamere

I'm missing a guy from Daingaen - a very useful forward - that may have been in with the County during these years. He's my final sub. Name that sub!
All of the Doon players!!!!
David Claffey nor Willy Ryan would make this list by the way.... Junior footballers at best!! You must love Doon Magpie??

Here's another addition to this thread....
Greatest winning score since 1980 in a Senior county final.....
Pashal Kelleghan goal v shamrocks? 2005 (Wasn't it?)
Vinny Mooney goal v Tullamore?? 1996

I love this thread.... :D

I don't think I quite realised how many Doon players I'd named until the line-up was completed :!:

Still, I think they all deserve inclusion. Willie Ryan was a corner-back on the U21 Leinster winning team. He was a big player for Doon too.

Good thread alright :D

I'm (surprisingly) going for (the first of) Matt Mitchell's match-winning points in 2003 against Rhode. Two almost identical scores kicked over the bar from the sideline (to win the game, which was level up to that point) on the hospital side of the pitch, kicking into the town end in O'Connor park.

I don't think he was quite as far out as Maurice Fitz, but he screwed the ball off the outside of his foot in exactly the same manner.

Definitely a pressure moment. Late in the game and Rhode had pegged back an 8 point start, drawing level, mostly due to the craft of the ageless 'Dingle' Daly.

Super effort. I'll have to put on my thinking cap for this one.
Without being trivial though Kieran McEvoy of Gracefield was a playing substitute in the 1991 County Senior Final. I remember standing on the hill feeling pity as he tried valiantly to turn the tide. Unlike some of his teammates :!:. That was the year Gracefield were to be honoured but Clara really thought otherwise :)

Also Tom Coffey of Ballyfore lined out for Rhode in the 1998 County Final. That though i'm not certain of. Some cretin robbed my programme that evening. I'm still looking for them

Would it be a Spollen lad that played in portlaoise against kildare in 1993?
Yeah that is Pat Spollen. He was gifted. Not to many people know that he played against Dublin in 1985 when he was only about 19.

At a guess I would have thought Tom Coffey of Ballyfore transferred to Rhode a couple of years after 1998.

As requested, the teams for the 1989 Senior Football Final;

Rhode
1-Thomas McDermott, 2-Stephen Darby, 3-Gerry Hickey, 4-Francis Cox, 5-Aidan Jones, 6-Charlie Conroy, 7-Shane Kellaghan, 8-Lockey Murphy, 9-Ken Kelleghan, 10-Johnny Mooney, 11-Eugene McDermott, 12-Danny Leavey, 13-Pat Daly, 14-Vincent Murphy, 15-Dermot Murphy

Vincent Murphy got the consolation goal when Ferbane were about 15 points up. Pat Daly kicked a hatful as well. They were the only two who scored. The wonderfully named P.J. Cocoman came on too! I remember a few of us having a great laugh at that!. Rhode tried everything and Johnny Mooney was moved to midfield but to little effect.

Ferbane
1-Vincent Egan, 2-John Kelly, 3-John Keena, 4-Sean Grennan(Amazingly he played here too!), 5-Johnny Grehan, 6-Michael Kenny, 7-Jackie Kenny, 8-Denis Kelly, 9-Michael Lowry, 10-Brendan Flynn, 11-Pat Doyle, 12-Kieran Flynn, 13-Cathal Ryan, 14-Paul Mollen, 15-Brendan Lowry

All the usuals were at it for Ferbane with Brendan Lowry, Paul Mollen, Denis Kelly and Pat Doyle doing the necessary and more. K.K. Kenny came on too.
Brendan Troy was the man in the middle.
The world is a stage, but the play is badly cast.

McEvoy is one of the most natural footballers I ever seen.
