A challenge that looked ill advised beforehand, that scoreline would definitely suggest it was. Tough on them to take a beating like that.

Time to batten down the hatches for this group of players now.
Not great reports but they have to zone in on getting a performance for the first round against Westmeath.
Difficult job there this year for management and the loss of Cillian Bourke will have been a blow. This group are not a bad group but it will take a huge effort to achieve progression from a group with Meath and Dublin also.
However, its a year where the back up competition may offer some hope. But effort and application are all that we can ask for.

Things haven't gone well at all for this group..
One win against Leitrim. Losses to UCD, Galway, Roscommon, Limerick, Cork and Kerry. Leitrim were missing their 6 seniors players too.
Then again football is a funny old game. Shouldn't be a lot in the game tomorrow evening but fearful of the Dublin and Meath games.

Is the Carney twins involved in any team this year?

That was as poor of a performance as one could’ve dreamed of.
Didn’t seem to be any tactical plan, cleaned out at midfield, aimless in attack and destroyed on the counter.
Might as well give Dublin a walkover.

Worse than I expected… Dublin and Meath won’t make for pretty viewing. Dublin beaten by Meath tonight so coming to Offaly knowing they have to win.
Re: Offaly u20 Footballers 2025
Lots come on here and row in hard on players when things go bad. I won't do that as these are young players doing their best. But holy god, that was a 6 point annihilation. At no point did we look competitive. I just wonder what they were looking at in training because there are plenty of lads that should be there around that team and squad that weren't. Our half back line showed little or nothing going forward and were over run going backwards. Not dure if that was to do with opposition half backs running all over us but either way, we were totally outplayed in middle third and that was the game done and dusted.
The most disappointing thing for me was that I spoke to someone close to that Westmeath group a fortnight ago - a former county player who knows his football and said that WH team is very average and they wouldnt be holding much hope of any success with that particular group. If they are that average and so far ahead of us then what are we at. It was that bad and we should have at least been competitive which we werent. Our levels of strength in the contact areas and tackle was poor which says to me that personnel wise, we were well short on some of our best players at this age grade for whatever reason as this group would have been working with S&C coaches from U14 level. Obviously a couple of lads that might have been involved have chose to hurl and that is fine but that doesnt explain that performance away.

The strength and draw of the U20 hurlers definitely hurts the football.jimbob17 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 26, 2025 11:51 pm Lots come on here and row in hard on players when things go bad. Donal Shirley for example would be one of the best footballers on this team if he wasn’t hurling.
And both Cillian Bourke and Conor Grennan who likely would’ve started as 8 and 9 were injured.
But that still doesn’t cover for how poor we were.
It doesn’t bode well for the future, I can’t imagine Mickey Harte watching that tonight and rushing to pick up the phone to any of them.

Looks like the wheel barrow races after the hiding from Kerry really paid off.
Re: Offaly u20 Footballers 2025
Let’s be real here
This was always gonna be our weakest u 20 team
In A long time Anybody that knows what’s going on knew this { it’s all about hurling )
Cillian Bourke is worth prob 5/6 points to that team
But leaving Jack Maher Patrick Kenna Jack Daly off the back line and playing Darragh Bryant a forward all his life at wing back is looking for trouble no offence to Darragh who is a forward.
Cian Bracken is defo good enough to be starting too maybe he is injured .

Leaving out three Tullamore players was the problem, was it?del wrote: ↑Thu Mar 27, 2025 1:10 am Let’s be real here

Usually in this instance somebody would infer that the manager has a gripe against a particular club but I don’t think that’s the case here.
