First and foremost, I don't know who ever called me great, but if they did they were sadly misguided - I am what I am, an appalling footballer and a long standing supporter who just happens to be reasonably endowed with the ability to put odds on these games.Kemo Sabe wrote:i cant beleive what im reading .so called offaly men talking bout betting against their own county just to make a few pound .the so called great loneshark called for the players to give an extra 5 percent for him and then he comes on here advising people to back against them.its a disgrace and ye should be ashamed of yerselves .
Let's be clear about this - I will be in Roscommon on Sunday, wearing the Offaly colours and shouting them on, whether they are right in there with a fighting chance or losing by twenty points. No matter what readers of my column choose to do, I will be hoping for Offaly to get the best result possible, just like I always do. However there is no point being unrealistic - my job on that board is to recommend winners to readers and Roscommon are the best value of the weekend by a country mile. I might not want it to happen, any more than I might not want any number of unfortunate things to happen. I lost my job last year and I know what that feels like - yet if you offered me even money about the number of unemployed people in Ireland to rise in 2009, then it'd be a bit foolish not to take it. It's called separating realism from wishful thinking.
