First and foremost, I don't know who ever called me great, but if they did they were sadly misguided - I am what I am, an appalling footballer and a long standing supporter who just happens to be reasonably endowed with the ability to put odds on these games.

Let's be clear about this - I will be in Roscommon on Sunday, wearing the Offaly colours and shouting them on, whether they are right in there with a fighting chance or losing by twenty points. No matter what readers of my column choose to do, I will be hoping for Offaly to get the best result possible, just like I always do. However there is no point being unrealistic - my job on that board is to recommend winners to readers and Roscommon are the best value of the weekend by a country mile. I might not want it to happen, any more than I might not want any number of unfortunate things to happen. I lost my job last year and I know what that feels like - yet if you offered me even money about the number of unemployed people in Ireland to rise in 2009, then it'd be a bit foolish not to take it. It's called separating realism from wishful thinking.

Agreed LS. As for Kemo, I think a quiet retreat is required.

If having a bet on a match is your thing then you must go with the head or else your on a one way ticket to loosersville. I'd love to see offaly win the double but that doesn't mean i'm going to back them

I think if you backed Offaly

you'd be giving the Government a fair run for their money with regards to deficits.

If LS offered 500-1 on Roscommon tomorrow, I don't know too many Offaly people that would stand behind their colours.

:D Great Comment.

You're right, Clara people are genetically flawed and don't have any loyalty.

It's a pity Tullamore aren't due to play any games. The last time they took a good trimming, you disappeared for weeks

I couldn't resist.

The government could have bailed out the economy and the banks with the free money that was available on Roscommon yesterday!

Just have a feeling this weekend that Cork could cause a shock against Galway.
Galway have a poor team out missing id say 9 that will start in championship.
Add this to the McIntyre factor! and cork at 14/1 to win by 1-3pts is worth a €10.
If you think i am mad (which alot of you think i am!) cork +11 would be a much safer bet!
Time will tell!

I actually completely agree with you - though I think actually winning the game might be a bridge too far. However Cork are guaranteed to improve since alltheir time together will be new experience for them, while I'm far from convinced that Galway are any great shakes, at least until they get the Portumna lads back in.

I got on at the start of the week at plus 13 points with Boyles - not sure if that's still there, but for handicap backers you could do a lot worse.

I would love to see Cork go the whole hog and win, but that might be a bridge too far. You never know though.

The +13 is still available @ 5/6 with Boyles. Not as standoutish as the Rossie bet a few ago but certainly the bet of the weekend. McIntyre has a habit of not firing teams up especialy for games they should (or at leat can) win. Dublin hammered them 2 weeks ago and think back to Offalys defeat at the hands of Carlow in 2005........not sure McIntyre cares for the league. Best of luck to Ger and the Cork boys.

Heres one for Cheltenham next week lads - Oscar Rebel. Good vibes from the stable and she is really good value at 14/1 for the mares race on day 1. Hopefully Ruby gets up on her again and would be confident of a place at least.
