5-6000 be a big crowd, I’d have thought.

So interesting that 7 of the squad are doing their junior cert. you see the county jersey and the big crowd the last day and forget that they are kids. It really is a developmental age. Generally what happens in the next 5 years is what will determine their success in the future. This is a bonus.

Not one to get into the whole gaa calendar and structure of championships is all over the place but currently it really is. Both codes are currently awful.

Such concerns over the crowd, have you lads got a foot in the commercial section of the GAA.

5000 will be a big crowd as someone said, 1000 from Clare and 4k from OY.

More to the point, any insight as to how our team have been able to prepare, Clare will have had 2 good games under their belt. Have our lads been able to play a match bar internal training matches.

Too much made about the junior cert also, not as if any of them will be leaving school for apprenticeships or anything. Bit of hurling will crown them.

Hopefully our pre-match structure has undergone some serious tweaking.

Our warm up was way overboard for the Leinster Final. They warmed up prior to being on the pitch in OMP and a 2nd part to it on the pitch itself.

I was alarmed at how long they spent in 2 tackle boxes during the warm up as this is high intensity stuff and my fears were realised when we had players starting to cramp at 40 minutes. Our hurling coaches and s&c coaches got it badly wrong on the night. More than likely they got too excited by the occasion and Leinster Final and tried to show off all their best drills etc and it totally backfired.

Sometimes these coaches are a hindrence. Trying to justify their wage and role.

They pretty well hammered laois that night. Pretty sure they relicate the same warm up regardless of the match.

Would have to kinda agree with Frank on this. Lads (and we’re talking about 16-17 year olds here) were cramping up 5 minutes into the second half. We got away with it against Laois but won’t get away with it as the standard increases.

Not even a toe in the commercial section but just worried that reference made to repeating the atmosphere of portlaois In thurles.

Crowd of circa 15,000 there at near full capacity against 5,000 In thurles which holds 45,000. Atmosphere will be well down and just hope it doesn’t affect our lads, that’s it

I didn't see what took place off-field but Offaly's on-field warm up looked more fit for purposes than Leix's warm up.

Players need to get their heart rates up, they need to get the blood moving into the muscles to prevent injury.
They also need to activate their vision and alertness. Warm up drills with unpredictable movements, decision making, bodies whizzing by in all directions help with reaction times.

On the field, Leix were doing casual shooting practice and some predictable straight line drills.
Again I didn't see what they'd done off the field but unless they'd done the serious stuff before that, what I saw wasn't hectic.

I've watched the warm up a few time and it's pretty good. Cramping up in matches can be for multiple reasons. Diet, previous training, loss of body fluids etc. Hard ground plays a role too and the level of intensity in the match.

The good news is that Klare have had a lot of distractions this past few days and it may have dented the public interest in this fixture for them.
I wonder how will Offaly cope with the long lay off between matches?
If this game was played 3 weeks ago, Offaly would have been firm favourites. But now the wheel has turned a bit.

Will Offaly's system work as well as it did a month ago? If there is more pressure applied and a drop in the quality of the accurate deliveries into our forwards, it could be a problem. If our forwards aren't able to replicate the ability to win possession against the odds and create scores, maybe that is another concern.

While we had a very enjoyable Leinster final win over Leix, some of their tactics were very poor.
Watch a couple of minutes here and see how they drove the ball from the outside-inwards and into a crowd, suiting Offaly, whereas Offaly sent the ball outwards towards the sideline and stretched the Leix defence and rendered their spare defenders as passengers.

Klare might be no better than Leix hurling-wise but they could play much smarter and maybe give Offaly problems.

Best of luck to these young men this evening.

Crowd won't be a factor in terms of holding them back after playing in a massive crowd in Portlaoise.

Would be unbelievable to get to another underage All Ireland final
