Offaly Hurling 2026
Re: Offaly Hurling 2026
Eoghan Cahill was phenomenal yesterday I thought.
His work rate was second to none, chased lost causes for both goals and overturned the ball.
From playing little to no minutes before last weekend, he can't be dropped now whatever happens for the rest of the year.
Big Kudos to Ben, Ross and Killian also. Pat Taafe goes under the radar also.

If available would Killian Kiely and indeed Cathal Kiely be great players to have now we are competitive again at a higher level, before anyone who doesn't like them starts, both carried us through the wilderness of Christy Ring and and JMcD tournaments when we hadn't a pot to p*ss in back then..they owe us nothing but just mentioning them for a conversation point of view...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2026
would it be sacrilegious to suggest we might be better off finishing 4th this year? another year into the physical development we will be much stronger in 2027? a physiched up munster team in croke park might not be the best idea?

If we come third we are away to the losers of the munster final.biffinbanner wrote: ↑Sun May 17, 2026 12:52 pm would it be sacrilegious to suggest we might be better off finishing 4th this year? another year into the physical development we will be much stronger in 2027? a physiched up munster team in croke park might not be the best idea?
I think the losers of the provincial finals have home advantage in the quarter finals.

No, momentum is everything. Let's keep going as deep as possible.biffinbanner wrote: ↑Sun May 17, 2026 12:52 pm would it be sacrilegious to suggest we might be better off finishing 4th this year? another year into the physical development we will be much stronger in 2027? a physiched up munster team in croke park might not be the best idea?
In 2027 the fixtures don't fall as nice. Kilkenny and Wexford under new management will expect to be better.

Interesting that last week Kilkenny's best player of the modern era lost his composure in the pressure cooker of O'Connor Park. TJ missed 4 frees and got hauled off.
Yesterday, Lee Chin, the best Wexford hurler since the time when they all Freddie Mercury taches, had an off day.
It's becoming a graveyard for reputations!

Worst opinion ever given here?Asiseeit wrote: ↑Sun May 17, 2026 12:38 pm If available would Killian Kiely and indeed Cathal Kiely be great players to have now we are competitive again at a higher level, before anyone who doesn't like them starts, both carried us through the wilderness of Christy Ring and and JMcD tournaments when we hadn't a pot to p*ss in back then..they owe us nothing but just mentioning them for a conversation point of view...
Cillian wasn’t near the pace of things last year.
Cathal couldn’t get a game for their clubs second team before having to emigrate.
When did Cathal Kiely ever carry Offaly through anything?
Re: Offaly Hurling 2026
Obviously not a fan I see, Killian was our mainstay in lower etchelons and carried us many a day, Cathal was on panel and did play and score for Offaly too.. they aren't a phobia or something that should be forgotten about, Kiely and Conneely carried us out of the wilderness we were in..
Re: Offaly Hurling 2026
I agree about Eoghan Cahill the last two matches, I will say apart from the first two frees against Kilkenny he hasn’t put a foot wrong, every free is crucial and knowing that he is lethal fills the rest with confidence. We did miss a few in the first match against Dublin.
As for Liam hoare, his two points yesterday were at crucial times, very little between himself and Troy but having that ability to score from long distance is a big factor.
Again great progress again this year. It’s great to see the crowds increase with each match, the team deserves it.

Re: Offaly Hurling 2026
Eoghan was probably our man of the match yesterday, Ben and Killian were immense as well. We didn’t start well, but benefited from some poor shooting by Wexford, and I thought we started to get to grips with the game in the last 10-15m of the first half.
To win the second half by 11 points shows some of the potential of this team, and I think there is plenty more to come in the next few years.
The two intercontinental missiles from Liam Hoare were a highlight yesterday evening, and the savage work rate, especially in that second half, was outstanding.

The boon from an All-Ireland quarter-final place would be four weeks additional hurling at Senior intercounty level. Summertime conditions might even arrive in that period. But you wouldn't know.
There's massive character in that team. More than I ever imagined. It's been a helluva four weeks. Nine of then under 23, on the cusp of an All-Ireland quarter-final place and they're only going to get better.
A good week for Johnny Kelly and Tony Gleeson too, and both should be retained for another year if they're willing to stay.

Killian was key to the Joe mcdonagh win nobody is going to doubt that but what has happened since then nobody knows did he walk ? Was he selectedAsiseeit wrote: ↑Sun May 17, 2026 2:51 pm Obviously not a fan I see, Killian was our mainstay in lower etchelons and carried us many a day, Cathal was on panel and did play and score for Offaly too.. they aren't a phobia or something that should be forgotten about, Kiely and Conneely carried us out of the wilderness we were in..
When fit he is a good player maybe he's just decided to take a step back from the setup
As for Cathal he didn't feature that much for the seniors , there was questions around his attitude witch was opposite that of Eoin Cahill who was in the exact same position up until the kk game
Re: Offaly Hurling 2026
Great to get this win. Congrats to all involved. Quick ?:
Was looking at a box score and it represented that we only used 1 sub. Is that correct or maybe it was incomplete/I read wrong?

Yes only one sub used.
Seems the management don’t have huge faith in the bench.
