Re: Offaly U20 Hurlers 2025
The last knockout tie between the teams was the 2023 semi final in OCP. Round Robin doesn't really count as far as I know because everyone gets a home and away game in it.

Dublin beat Antrim by 3 points tonight, so it’s Dublin for us in the QF.

Thanks for that. I’d forgotten about that one tonight.faithfulfanatic wrote: ↑Wed Apr 23, 2025 7:57 pm Dublin beat Antrim by 3 points tonight, so it’s Dublin for us in the QF.
A few posters on here reckon that it will be Parnell park. I heard at the weekend it will be O’Connor park but I wasn’t totally convinced by the lad that said that to me.

Dublin are pretty poor, lost all their group games and struggled tonight against an average antrim team.

Re: Offaly U20 Hurlers 2025
Brendan Kenny seems the stand out for them and there are a few names I’d recognise from previous campaigns (Conor Groarke, David Lucey, Conal O’Riain, Senan Crosbie). There’s also David Purcell out injured who is u20 and very close to the senior team.private joker wrote: ↑Wed Apr 23, 2025 10:34 pm Dublin are pretty poor, lost all their group games and struggled tonight against an average antrim team.
Kilmacud have Kenny, O’Riain, Lucey, Purcell and a couple more starters and are expected to take a stranglehold of the Dublin club hurling in the next few years.

Re: Offaly U20 Hurlers 2025
Yes, Brendan Kenny gave Offaly a lot of problems last year in the Leinster final and will be a key man again this time.
I'd say if David Purcell is any way approaching fitness, he'll feature against Offaly.
Dublin were well ahead against Antrim but must have lost their way in the closing stages. I wouldn't read much into it.
Offaly should be good enough to win, but Dublin hurling sides are hard to see off. They can make more errors in a game and still win. If you're not prepared to get mucky in the trenches, you'll be in trouble.

Re: Offaly U20 Hurlers 2025
I think you are mistaken......They have an awful lot of the same players from last year. And have more lads who have been in around the Dublin senior squad than they had last year. Kenny, Lucy and Purcell.....all played the league game against us I think. O'Riain and Gaffney are also in with Senior squad too.private joker wrote: ↑Wed Apr 23, 2025 10:34 pm Dublin are pretty poor, lost all their group games and struggled tonight against an average antrim team.
If you recall last year, we only just scraped over them in the group, then they had a poor showing against Galway.....but they regrouped then in the prelim quarter final, before beating Wexford and turning the tables on Galway.
I thought they gave us a proper test in the Leinster final for a much of the match aswell, although they did get a late goal which put them closer on the scoreboard and was probably a fair reflection of the match overall. I somewhat put that goal down to our players losing concentration a touch with the crowd fiasco and lack of stewards.
O'Riain, Kenny and Lucey will be their main men at the spine....but Dublin have so many players to choose from as they have hundreds playing up to the age compared to us, so will have a very strong squad overall, with their pick of hurlers and lads who are physically strong and pacey, if they choose to sprinkle those aspects around the 15 they put out. I believe Purcell is injured....but might be back for the match with us. Dublin were easily 10-12 points better than Antrim, but took their eye off the ball and let Antrim back into it with goals at various stages.....It was probably a good thing for them to get a fright, as they will try shore up on those exposed areas before they play us.
Dublin are not to be taken lightly

They have some very good hurlers, it just seems they are out of form at the moment. Vs offaly will be their 4th match and they seem to be struggling with just getting going.

Poster on ReservoirDubs is quoting the game as being on Monday, May 5th at 3pm in Parnell Park.
A dreadful time really and will dampen our travelling pack I’d imagine.

Tickets went on sale on the Leinster Council site earlier today for the date and time you state.
(And in fairness, it doesn't take much to dampen the 'travelling pack'.)

Pat Donegan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.

PTH is 100% right about the “travelling pack”
3pm on a Monday is very unusual?
Dublin will be tough beat in Parnell Offaly have a poor record when it comes to deciders up there,
And then on the flip side our underage have managed to change that slightly not just this under 20 team but there was one when Brian duignan (I think) and David nally played.
Following that win we left it too late v Wexford in Tullamore to start playing

Re: Offaly U20 Hurlers 2025
Unusual, but the 2023 Minor hurling semi-finals were played on the May bank Holiday Monday, if I recall correctly.
And the 2019 U20 win over Dublin was one of THE great evenings with Offaly. Of the current team, Ciarán Burke, Ross Ravenhill and Killian Sampson played, as well as the aforementioned Duignan and Nally. Also lining out were Éamonn Cleary in goals and Dara Maher who are still involved. Cathal Kiely scored 0-20. And John Murphy won it with a late, late, mighty free.

Ruairi Kelly the latest to succumb to a hamstring injury according to the rumour mill.
If so, questions need to asked at this stage about training loads for these players.

It’s a bank holiday Monday. Isn’t it as good as any time for a game. If people want to go, the time won’t stop them.

We could have a change of venue for the Dublin game .
I'm told the pitch has been damaged buy
Weedkiller or something.not sure what will happen but I thought I would let it be known
