There might be a little gap between junior club football and Meath in a first round of a Leinster Senior Championship.

Re: Leinster club championship
Fully agree. Great to see Ballinagar do well with a good young team but lets keep this in context - it is junior football. There are maybe one or two that could make contributions to an Offaly panel in the future but lets not make them out to be more than what they are. How many of them would make the Tullamore team or the Ferbane team for that matter?ruletheroost wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 9:09 pmThere might be a little gap between junior club football and Meath in a first round of a Leinster Senior Championship.
That is the measure by which you would guage a potential inter county senior player. There are too many players that are put up on pedestals in their own areas in junior and intermediate clubs because they are good players in a very small pool and it doesnt help these players as it gives some of them egos and notions beyond their ability. Offaly have genuinely 7 or maybe 8 club senior standard teams at a stretch by other counties standards. Ballinagar could join that group over the coming years as these young players get older and stronger - in the same way that Ballycommon has joined this tier - but all of them have a very long way to go yet to be senior club footballers let alone senior inter county level footballers.

Re: Leinster club championship
My comment was tongue in cheek following on from someone pointing out earlier in the year that Ballinagars "county" players were no good against bridgids. I'm not saying call up all Ballinagar players! At the same time there are plenty of good players at b,inter and even junior playing. Saw a post about the team of the year and lads discussing and asking if it would be close to offaly starting team! We need to increase the numbers playing in senior A and senior b and get more teams playing higher standard, this 6 team senior b championship is a bigger joke than the layout of the groups this year. Outside of the big 4 there's very little between the grades, teams are able to go up the grades and compete in recent years, ballycommon, bracknagh, clonbullogue, daingean, Cappincur etc. Should be 12 and 12 in senior a and b and let teams get exposure to higher level of football playing better teams and it will help develop players for the county.

St. Lomans play Castletown this Weds night in Kinnegad, I believe. Tullamore face a Sat night game away to Cuala. in Parnell Park. Why not a neutral venue daytime fixture?jonsey wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 12:32 pmSemi Finals: OR Wednesday 20th Nov – Dual Teams (Hurling & Football)

Re: Leinster club championship
there's rumour's that the Tullamore game is going to be on RTE that Saturday night, so i'd say thats why its a Saturday evening game, also (i think i could be wrong)Tullamore lost home advantage from Leinster council after the referee incident last year as one of the punishments along with the player suspension recieved after that game in OCP last year.
Re: Leinster club championship
That is fair enough. These punishments / suspensions need to be applied as deterrents for poor behaviour. As for going away to Parnell Park, it was always the case that a provincial semi final is played in one of the county grounds of one of the teams - either drawn from hat or through home / away agreement - meaning you are likely to get a larger attendance than in somewhere like St Conleths Park. Last years Croke Park semi final double header if it was on there, was an anomaly and from what I understand (or was told before), it takes a minimum crowd of approx 15000 - 20,000 to attend a game for Croke Park to break even in terms of running a game. Not sure how true that is but i'd imagine the cost of playing in Croke Park is greater than most places. Parnell Park is a big open pitch too and will hold a much better atmosphere than CP with a crowd of maybe 3000-5000 attending. I wouldnt imagine too many neutrals from Offaly will travel.

Re: Leinster club championship
This figure was originally bandied about during the Rule 42 debate to create the impression that Croke Park was a financial millstone for the GAA unless soccer and rugby were played there.jimbob17 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 10:46 pm Last years Croke Park semi final double header if it was on there, was an anomaly and from what I understand (or was told before), it takes a minimum crowd of approx 15000 - 20,000 to attend a game for Croke Park to break even in terms of running a game. In reality, there are lots of occasions when Croke Park is opened to small crowds - like midweek schools games. Only a section of the stands are opened and the staff on duty would be far less.

Just a couple of points
The reason Tullamore are away is because that is the way the draw was done this year . The neutral semi finals were done away with whoever won between Cuala and Naas was always gonna have a home semi . Also it was not because Tullamore lost home advantage because of incident last year that’s just false . the club was fined money that’s the only punishment handed to the club outside of individual ones . Do people just make stuff up on this forum.

I agree with the poster’s comment about very few if any, neutral Offaly supporters will attend the game, on a dark Saturday evening in November.
Re: Leinster club championship
Very few neutrals will go support Tullamore no matter where and when it’s on but Saturday night in Dublin I very much doubt any will go
Hopefully a big Tullamore crowd will go I believe there’s a few buses running from town
