Re: JP McManus donation

I don't think anyone is complaining, though I would be one of those who would be in the camp of not lauding a tax exile for picking and choosing where his money goes, as opposed to the rest of us who get no such choice in the matter.

Aside from that issue however, which is not really one for Offaly GAA to deal with, it's realistic for there to be concern about what this will do the general GAA landscape. Of course it's a good thing on the face of it, and for some of the smaller clubs out there, this money will be hugely helpful and will take a lot of pressure off. However what we don't want is a situation where this is the trigger that sets the "going rate" for middle of the road managers up from €120 a night to €150 a night, particularly since if that happens, it won't just revert back down next year, when there's no JP money.

Whereas if there was a capital project in it, then no matter what you do, you'd have something to show for it. But as POTH points out, there are rules attached to the disbursement of the funds, and they make it quite clear that it's to go to clubs.
Kevin Egan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.
