Will Hawkfield be big enough. Talks that it wouldn’t.

It is and would be a possibility as would Conneff Park in Clane.
Given the poor travelling support our hurlers get and the fact that Kildare have come back to earth with a bang I'm not so sure crowd congestion will be a major factor anymore with this fixture. GAA may well compromise and let them use Clane.

Hawkfield is big enough but weather conditions could put the kybosh on it .
I'm dreading it will be Carlow as portloaise is occupied
Bad enough the U20 hurlers have to play in davers on Saturday ..

Laois and down in portlaoise at 2pm, it would be great to have Kildare vs offaly at 4pm in portlaoise.

Carlow would be a long way down.

Big crowd in portlaoise the for the league final. I don't think hawk field would hold that.
Is there any good club grounds in Kildare that it might be played in?

With a the cofuffle over county grounds etc and safety, I doubt there are any grounds capable of hosting a game like this in Kildare.

And if we can't bring a crowd of 2000 after the effort our lads have put in, particularly the last 2 weekends well then I give up.

Kildare result was a big shock, and they will come with everything now knowing that a loss would pretty much end their season.
For us its a case of rinse and repeat this week, and get over the line once more with a bit of a break after that.

Well done, to the team and management on Saturday. No doubt Laois will regroup and go again with the belief that if they get a rattle at us in a final they can do the business. But I think tha t this win in particular will have a positive psychological impact on the group.

The game against Laois really lifted the spirits, this Offaly team are working really hard at trying to get us back to a top 10 team, a long way to go but beating the competition favourites is no mean feat. Well done all involved

Not only is it a "thing", it's a "town"!

Nothing is more annoying these days than the use of "is this or that A f....King THING".

I'm surprised and disapointed in you POTH!!

Offaly have 'concerns' over proposed Kildare venue
Gaelic games
COLM KEYS
OFFALY chairman Michael Duignan says he has "concerns” over Kildare's plans to host this weekend's Joe McDonagh Cup clash against the Faithful County at their centre of excellence in Hawkfield.

A venue for the game - a repeat of the recent NHL Division 2A final, which Offaly won - has yet to be confirmed as Kildare's county ground St Conleth's Park undergoes redevelopment.

A health and safety audit of Hawkfield, just outside Newbridge, was due to be completed before the fixture was finalised with the crowd expected to be capped at 1,000-1,500, well below the 2,600 that were at the league final in Portlaoise.

Duignan acknowledged that it was Kildare's "prerogative” to select a venue but said his county were surprised when they heard it was likely to be hosted at Hawkfield.

"We saw the interest in the league final and the crowd that brought,” he said. "As far as we are concerned it's a championship game, it's our All-Ireland. You wouldn't expect games of that stature to be played in a training facility. We'd have concerns about it.”

Kildare chairman Mick Gorman reasoned that the Lilywhites' loss to Carlow last weekend in the opening round of the Joe McDonagh Cup and the fact it's not a final would reduce demand, making Hawkfield suitable.

St Conleth's Park hosted its last game against Meath in the final round of NFL Division 2 before starting a €17.5m, 18-month redevelopment.

Despite some speculation that they would seek to nominate Hawkfield, Gorman has confirmed Kildare will not be seeking to play home Sam Maguire or Tailteann Cup games at the venue.

"We have no intention of looking to play Sam Maguire Cup or Tailteann Cup games in Hawkfield,” he said.

"We have to clarify with Croke Park where we will play them but it won't be Hawkfield.”

All part of the nonsense game that is the GAA at times.
Why wasn't the venue obliged to be named when county grounds not available before this competition started?

HEADS DOWN AND BE READY FOR THE BATTLE!
