Example : transfers from tullamore to shinrone but wants permission to still play football with tullamore because their is no football club in shinrone ?
I think that it would be allowed. Technically speaking the Tullamore individual could play for Rynaghs as they have separate clubs for each code, as you may note in OCP or in the Faithful Fields. The one in OCP still has Killeigh, Killurin, Ballyskenagh and Killavilla. To my surprise, the Clonmore Harps’ crest is not present on the Faithful Fields wall. It’s in actual fact Clonmore GAA of Carlow’s crest. Apologies for my little extra detail.

If there is no longstanding arrangement (as there is for example in Shannonbridge, where anybody who wants to hurl does so with Belmont) then a player can seek permission to play football with any club they like. There is no guarantee that will be granted of course, as I think (I'm not 100% sure however) that player would theoretically be no more likely to be granted permission to play football with Tullamore than Sean Cleary or Conor Doughan would, were they to ask to do so. The county board could argue that the county would be far better served by having them play with Birr, for example.
Kevin Egan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.

Thanks for the replies lone shark and loosecannon,
I often hear of fellas doing it not so much offaly but other counties were they have moved to a new area and want to get to know the locals as a social thing while still wanting to keep ties with their old club.
I remember John Ryan playing for rynaghs while being with shannonbridge how did that come to being ?

I think at the time there was rulings over permissions as in en-masse from a particular club, whereas in the last few years, one from Shannonbridge for example can hurl for St Rynagh’s if they wish or even Brosna Gaels. Before that all went to Belmont. Didn’t he have a year where he played no club hurling? Was it 99? I’ve some of the programmes from years ago, and feel free to correct me on this, but I recall him being listed as Belmont in 98, Shannonbridge in 99 and as St Rynagh’s in 00.
POTH might be more in the know on it.
Good Luck
