Ferbane have appointed Laois man, Sean Dempsey, who was over Edenderry a couple of years ago.

Senior, Senior B & Intermediate Football 2 groups of 4 to commence July 2019

Junior A to commence April 2019 2 groups with 4 qualifying from each group

Junior B Football April 2019 2 groups Top 3 to qualify

Junior C Football 1 group April 2019 3 to qualify

With 2 groups of 4 is it top goes straight to semi finals and 2nd v 3rd from the other group to join them. Bottom plays each other for relegation. Is it scoring difference or head to head if teams are level does anyone know.

July seems very late to be starting a championship in 3 codes.

Seems in Senior A+B and Intermediate each team will play 4 games. So presumably that'll be 2 from their own group and 2 against teams from the other group.
I see the point in this as it means 3 rounds less than last year and keeps the groups competitive. However, it should be top 2 teams only into the semis. 3 teams out of the groups is too much.

Teams in group one play teams in group 2 and vice a versa therefore allowing each team 4 championship games in the group stage.

A good format in my opinion.

Cheers for the clarification Frank.

So in theory with that format the groups could end up with all teams in Group 1 having played 4 and won 4 and all on 8 pts. All teams in Group 2 would have played 4 lost 4 and all on 0 pts. Therefore a team in Group 1 would be eliminated despite winning their 4 games but three teams from Group 2 progress to the knockout stages having lost all their games. Extreme example yes, but you could have a less dramatic situation where a team wins say 3 games and is eliminated from their group but a team winning just 1 game in the other group progresses. Wait til that happens!!!

Is it not the case that the four guaranteed matches are the three group games (against the other three teams in the same grpup) followed by the semi-final, quarter-final or relegation final as appropriate?

I think that you’re right. I think what’s described could give way to mathematical cock ups, not to BB’s extremes, but it could.
Plus it would be too complicated crisscrossing groups anyway.
Good Luck

No. The format is group A play group B..

After the 4 games, 1st place in each group qualifies for semi final then 2nd place play 3rd from their OWN group. While technically one group of teams could lose all their games it is extremely unlikely due to seeding.

For example:
Febane and Rhode can't be in the same group (Finalists)
Clara and Tullamore can't be in the same group (semi finalists)
Edenderry and Gracfield can't be in the same group (quarter finalists)
Cappincur and Shamrocks can't be in the same group (relegation playoff & Senior B winners)

I agree with knockout too. With only 8 teams, you could run it off in 3 weekends - lets say "April for clubs".

Lets lads plan their Summer without having to worry about dreaded football matches getting in the way. Avoids the dreaded player burnout potential issue. Also, makes room for way more inter-county matches as you don't have to worry about meaningless club matches that don't make much money for the organisation clogging up the schedule.

Knockout with a one chance back door could be a great idea. In Clare in their hurling championship they have 16 senior teams. They play in a knockout championship with a backdoor. Lose 2 games you are gone. Lose your first 2 games you are in relegation semi-final. Every team gets at least 3 championship matches of RELEVANCE.

We have 8 Senior A teams in Offaly and 8 Senior B. Total rubbish. You are either Senior or you aren't. If you are then we have a 16 team senior championship. If you aren't we have an 8 team senior championship and an 8 team intermediate championship.

For the most part Senior B is a competition for clubs who have illusions of senior grandeur but would rather not put in the effort to be competitively senior.

Kevin Corrigan tweeted about the new structure POTH. He would have been at the CB meeting on Tuesday I'm guessing.
