Re: 2018 NFL
If this performance had occurred in the middle of the league campaign then I'd be saying it would be best to chalk it down as a bad day at the office and forget about it altogether. There was simply too much wrong with it that you wouldn't know where to begin analysing it but the fact that it occurred during round 1 leaves management in an unenviable position. There were genuinely good vibes coming from the camp but perhaps the players got caught up in the whole 'sexy football' talk as well. Everything was wrong. Have we ever seen a team so leaderless before? When the chips were down Anton went back to getting involved in needless agro which is the easy thing to do instead of doing what captains are there to do which is stand and lead. I would suggest a change of captain is required, not ideal but if it has to be done it has to be done. The kickout strategy was appalling and anyways it's been apparent for a while that a change between the sticks is required.
The negativity against the wind baffled me....our lads spent ages handpassing the ball about making no effort to get forward, contrast that with the powerful running of the Longford half back line into the wind resulting in them quite literally walking in goals.Any one of three players could have slapped in 2 of the goals.
A serious reality call for all involved. I too expect a response in Fermanagh as there is no way they are bad as we witnessed last Sunday.
These are strange times for Offaly supporters.....the high of Saturday night followed by a real 'back to earth' lesson less than 24 hours later!

Agreed.bracknaghboy wrote: These are strange times for Offaly supporters.....the high of Saturday night followed by a real 'back to earth' lesson less than 24 hours later!
Add to that, I was more confident in the football going into the weekend (even with Dublin putting out a youngish squad.)

Re: 2018 NFL
Donal McElligott came on as a blood sub (officiall called a temporary sub) for Peter Foy after 20mins. (Foy was hit a dirty shot by one of our lads)LooseCannon wrote:What’s the story of the legality of Longford subs about??
Foy didn't return to the action until 55mins when he replaced Patrick Fox.
As per the rules Foy should have replaced McElligott. So make of it what you will. I'd piss myself laughing if we got the points after all that went on but thats not going to happen.

Re: 2018 NFL
If it was any other county, I'd say let it go. However there would be a beautiful karma to getting the points deducted from Longford, since I still remember this very clearly

Just to be clear, I had no issue at the time with Longford raising the issue of Casey being ineligible - he lined out while he should have been suspended, and that should of course lead to the loss of the game. However Longford tried to argue that the match - which finished 3-8 to 1-14 - should have gone into the record books as a 3-8 to 0-0 win for Longford, for the purposes of scoring difference. I think it's fair to say that was less than sporting, and if those chickens were to come home to roost eleven years later, I'd be happy to see them. Even if it's the case that neither team gets a point out of the game.

Now that you mention Ken Casey, is he coming back to the county team? Haven’t heard anything about it since the last interview with Stephen Wallace

I think there was talks of it. He might be back with them, as he was down under for a while. Speaking of down under, we could do with getting Ruairí Allen back. An unbelievable player.Killeighman wrote:Now that you mention Ken Casey, is he coming back to the county team? Haven’t heard anything about it since the last interview with Stephen Wallace

Re: 2018 NFL
So many changes and there could still be a few more with it. Craig Dunne was lost last week as was Jordan Hayes. Joey O’Connor should be in that team in my opinion be it wing forward or midfield. Johnny Maloney is needed big time although I don’t know where his fitness is at.

Re: 2018 NFL
is Cian O'Donoghue injured??????
Re: 2018 NFL
Mulhall not even named on the bench after last weekend. I felt sorry for him. Kickouts were not great but he literally had no options in front of him. Midfield was non existent.
Joey O'Connor has probably had a tough week of it with the Trench cup for WIT footballers and Fitzgibbon Cup the hurlers so may be a reason he is not starting.
I saw Jack Walsh lined out for Carlow IT during the week. Is he in with the panel?
Sunday is going to be a tough ask

Re: 2018 NFL
I thought Peter Cunningham might start at centre forward,as his natural position is in attack. Maybe John Moloney is not fit to start.LooseCannon wrote:Stephen Wallace, Billy Sheehan and Paul Mollen have selected the Offaly Panel to face Fermanagh in the second round of the Allianz National Football League on Sunday 4th Feb at 2pm in Brewster Park, Enniskillen.
