Kilcormac/Killoughey were good yesterday.
Watching the amount of cross field balls and the 5 forward harding work was a joy to behold.
The Send off. Player trying to protect themselves and his team mates.
No problem with the send off. Disappointed to see Kiely given the hit. should have been someone else protect him.
the way I look at it, someone had enforces a physical side of the game and you can't let someone chop up you and your teammates. That shouldn't be Kiely. Mainly cause Ref like to send him off.
And the otherside of this, Is that if the Ref had dealt with the strike on Slevin and Kiely in the same way as Kiely was deal with then Kiely wouldn't have reacted.
But it a Laois Ref and It was always going to favour the underdogs.

Cula are motoring well but not unbeatable.
Close down the Half back line and there a average team. no good supply to that full forward line, That the key here.
“Common sense is not so common.”

Nothing average about cuala. Very good team that take preparation to levels not seen before at club level. Basically a county team.

Spot on Private Joker. They have made the Kilkenny and Wexford champions look really poor. There a really strong outfit. All that said if KK can repeat yesterdays performance (after Kielys dismissal) they are in with a real shout. Really looking forward to this one.

I was thinking that I missed something alright, probably the most obvious team. Won 2 in 70s 78+79 I’m guessing. They were close to 1980.

i think kk are set fair to give cuala a right rattle, they are ideally suited to winter hurling, plus they have a great record in portlaoise, I see it as a 3 pointer either way, the wetter the day the better for kk.

Kiely deserved to get sent off, never will learn. though I will add mount leinster are one of those teams that specialise in riling opponents, they were at the same lark against camross(2 teams well matched in that art).

kk remind me a great deal of castletown at their peak, their brand at club level was miles ahead of the inter county team.

and for the record to the guy who was whinging about the "Laois referee" as usual screwing an offaly team.....the ref yesterday is a fully paid up Tipperary man, who in 2017 with work commitments switched to referee in Laois at club level.

I didnt see a strike ,i think he ran in and pushed him in the lower back .The MLR no8 should have got a red card ,he struck C Slevin with the hurl off the ball and the ref ignored it .Kielys previous red cards didnt help him.
i guess KK will appeal it if the have video evidence.
He is a huge loss for the final and it looks like P Healion is gone too .

Cuala are a well drilled team with class hurlers ,the play a sweeper system and create lots of space for their class forwards .
KK been very good in finals since 2012 and unlike the Wexford and Kilkenny champions ,KK are a proven team who on their day could beat anyone .
If Cuala play with a sweeper, KK could put a sweeper in front of G Healion like the did against Belmont .Kiely was perfect for that role .
S Byrne has lots of homework to do .
Looking forward to it already.

I shocked at Kevin Corrigan full page article on C Kiely on the Midland tribune .
Certainly wont help KK appeal .
If im correct that was Kielys second red card as a senior hurler and i still content that it wasnt a red .
So he has a decent discipline record at senior level .
Why would our local sport reporter write such a negative article on a 21 year old ,knowing that his club were trying to over turn the red card .????
Kielys discipline has been excellent all year ,he looks likes he has found his feet at senior level this year and has the potential to be one of the best midfielders in the country in the years ahead .
MLR were a shamefull on sunday , there midfield set out from the start to get young Kiely sent off because the couldnt hurl him ,
The stroke Kiely got minutes earlier was a much nastier blow .
Kiely should not have to go out on a hurling field and be battered because guys cant hurl him and be deserves better from his local paper .

Journalist writes an opinion piece in newspaper and somebody doesn't agree with journalist's opinion. Shock horror.

Why does Cillian Kiely deserve better as a matter of interest? Did the Midland Tribune send him off? Did the Midland Tribune grab his hurl and make him strike his opponent?

Whatever happened to the days of a player (or anyone in society for that matter) accepting the designated punishment for an illegal offence they committed?

Cillian Kiely is around long enough now to know the drill. The player and club should front up and take the suspension. As LS referenced the more you protect players with this attitude, the more likely they are to re-offend.

You have a point. To an extent.

Bit unusual for a Kinnitty man/woman to take so much interest in another club. :D

I didn't realise there was an appeal, and to be honest I'm disappointed if there is. It's an exercise in futility, and I think that the greater good of both Kilcormac-Killoughey and Cillian Kiely would be far better served by accepting the punishment and just backing the players that remain to be good enough on the day. There was no injustice done here.

On the point that two red cards as a senior hurler represents a "decent record" (let's park for a minute the fact that he picked up a number of red cards as an underage player) let's break that down. By my reckoning, Cillian Kiely has hurled in around 25 senior championship matches, give or take. If every player got one red card for every 12 or 13 appearances, that would mean that on average, there would be three people sent off in each match that is played. Now either I'm going to the wrong games, or that seems rather high. I suggest that two red cards in three or four adult seasons would be very poor going, most club players would retire having picked up two or three red cards in their whole career, or even less.

And stop trying to justify what he did by referencing what went on beforehand. That happens at top level games, good players get targeted. Good players with a known propensity for losing their temper doubly so - and for a long time to come, Cillian may as well get used to it, because he's going to get more of it.

Finally, I don't think the general GAA public of the county is well served by members of the press turning into blind cheerleaders, writing to suit the agenda of local teams, rather than trying to speak the truth. After all, you could just as easily argue that the Offaly county board shouldn't be held to account for what happened with the Hurling Development plan, or that a county manager should never be asked to explain why he took certain decisions, if we're to take the view that they should just weigh in and think of the success of the team all the time. Either you want your reporters to be honest and truthful, or you want them to act like stooges, only peddling the approved line. You can't have it both ways.
Kevin Egan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.

Correction: I agree to an extent.

His disciplinary record was not worthy of nearly a full page. To go into underage disciplinary record was probably wrong.
This article, regardless of your opinion on it should have no influence on an appeals committee.

Justifying for what went on before is BS.

Agree with the blind cheerleader bit.

Imagine that, one journalist sticking up for another. I’d love to hear POTH take on the article. I must say I thought it was very much bad form of Corrigan to dedicate a full page spread slating Kiely. Yes he did wrong and was silly to do what he did. He deserved a red card. Do you think he’s not feeling crap enough without him twisting the knife? He’s gonna miss out on one of the biggest days in the clubs history, is that not punishment enough? He’s only 21, he doesn’t deserve the slating he’s getting. He’s an unbelievable talent and there’s very few players in the county we can say that about unfortunately he’s got sent off a few times but he doesn’t need hurlers on the ditch telling him that it’s not good enough. Here’s hoping he gets the support from good people around him and there is plenty around him. Head up young man.

Top notch from all star, he's a great hurler that in no way should be exploited like that, whatever if it was part of a match report but to have a separate part of the paper target a player in such a horrible tone is too much, I'm not from kk but I'd hope the people of that parish would ask for a public apology from that tabloid newspaper, we can all have a view on things and that's healthy but you don't go and cut the back of any individual that gives his time free of charge to keep us entertained.
