Offaly SHC Final - St Rynaghs vs Kilcormac/Killoughey

Post by donfanny2 »

There's not much talk about the Offaly SHC Final between St Rynaghs and Kilcormac/Killoughey this weekend.
I'm trying to drum up some interest. If Gary Kelly is on form it's Rynaghs for me. Who does everyone else have?

Its the final most people predicted all year , D Currams loss for KK is massive ,I expect a tight low scoring game that could end in a draw or a 1 point win either way .

Sam, you must be very disappointed "Kinnity" aren't in it?

Felt all year these two would meet in the final.
Going for a draw today. It's to close to call.
The wind and how you use could deside the game

St Rynaghs did well to get back into it. Missed frees let them down.
K/K were a much more physical side, whereas Rynaghs were fitter, which showed near the end.
K/K won dirty ball, Rynaghs not so much.
K/K half-back line dominated.
Great to see Currams back, played well.
Rynaghs are just lacking in the forwards. Couldn't win their own ball.
Yet could still have won, had frees gone over.

Players:
Ciarán Slevin: quality performance, missed one free(it went over) Great engine.
Killian Leonard: exceptional.
Seán Dolan: outstanding. Rynaghs' only player who kept going throughout. By far their best player.
Good Luck

4 titles in 6 years is a great achievement for KK .
Killian Leonard was my man of the match .
S Byrne and his managment deserve great credit for getting the wheel on the wagon rolling again .
He now has a full panel to pick from for the first time this year .
Great to see D Currams back ,his last point was top class.

Hard luck to St. Ryangh's and Well Done to Kilcormac Killoughey.

The wind was a huge issue in the match.
Both team got 5 point each against the wind.
So. It was what the team did with the wind that won/loss the game.

I saw Kilcormac Killoughey vs Kinnity early this year and I thought they were miles off Rynagh's but slowly they improved.
What get me at the moment is, I think they are only around 50% of what they could be.
Kilmartin is still get used to Centre Back. They midfield are begin to work together well. James Gorgan is improving at wing forward.

Rynagh's need to invest some time in Plan B. They an excellent team. Could use the ball could be better with the wind.
Trying to play the same way day after day meant that they predictable. But still an excellent team. Super Champion.
If Rynaghs can add a bit of Kilcormac Killoughey game plan to there locker they could be unbeatable. inside or outside the county.

The great thing was the BATTLE. Some Massive Hit. Given and taking without and nastiness. Great respect showing between the two teams. Watch it back on TG4 and straight after Eddie Brennan was on, Talking about the Kilkenny mind set and it brought me back to mind set of great teams. Brennan was talk about the 2000 final and Larkin and Willie O'Connor talking about not will to Die for an All Ireland but will to Kill for It.
And that what I saw on Sunday both team, Were more intent on Winning the battle instead of dying for the cause.

MOM would be impossible to pick. Rynagh's Tracey, Herran, Kelly, Quirke, Dolan Wynne and O'Connor+ Hughes when he came on well all Excellent. Sean Dolan cover every blade of Grass.
Kilcormac Killoughey. Quinn, Kilmartin, Kiely, Selvin, Gorgan, Mahon. and Currims when he was sent on. all super.

For the 1st time I can remember. I can't pick out a player after the county final that didn't play well. And by well. I meant the basic, Fought for the team, Got stuck in and put there body on the line with big hits. That a great sign.

Some of the Quality in the games. were excellent. Treacy frees against the wind. Dolan and Kelly Work rate. Quirke Last point under pressure on the sideline. Gary Connolly pass for the Goal. from the other side Kiely, Gorman and Mahon work rate. Slevin run for the Goal. Curmins last point. Enda Gorgan point.

Not a great Championship but light up in the knockout stages with a lot of close games.
