Got the score. 6 27 to 5 points. Non event.
Thought under 17 was knockout?. It is in Munster. Cork winning it out vs Waterford.

Lads wouldnt take any of this with any degree of weight as to us improving. Fair enough they won but what were they against. We are a hurling county, Meath are not, they have six or eight clubs. We were winning All Irelands and Leinsters not that long ago!

We should ONLY measure ourselves off Kilkenny, Wexford and Dublin in Leinster full stop! If we are not up with them, then we are off the pace! It is not an achievement to be competitive with Laois and westmeath, that is where we are wrong. If things are done right and good quality regular coaching & S&C and all other appropriate supports are put in place and we develop steady stream of teams through good coaching and through formalised plan, only then are we doing what we should be doing. Forget about beating Meath by whatever it was! If that is what we measure ourselves off, then we can forget about it!

Look how Limerick, Clare and Waterford transformed their underage over period of 4-5 years. That is the mark and its achievable if things are done correctly across the board

Totally agree jimbob...The stronger counties are even broken down into different teams in this competition.
When we beat Wexford Dublin or a kilkenny at minor level then we are improving

I wasn't at the game but this is not the first trimming the under 17's have got recently, this was a very competitive team last year at under 16 but they seem to have gone backwards. It also appears that the under 16's have disappeared off the radar, a mate of mine has a son on the 16 panel and they have been doing very little work. They played Tipp North a few weeks ago and were well beaten in Thurles, Offaly beat that Tipp team well last year in Roscrea. It would seem that the idiotic idea to give the two most important development squads to one management is backfiring spectacularly, how this was ever for the "Betterment of Offaly hurling" as Martin Cashen keeps quoting is mind blowing. It was always said that this management would be added to as the year progressed this also hasn't happened, its a sorry sight to see the likes of Ger Maher, Tom Connors, Niall Gleeson and Brendan Butler attending matches as supporters of their sons when they should be on the sideline helping these squads,

I know nothing of the going on in offaly development squads. But having parent's involved in training is generally a no go. Clubs teams obviously you have to. But inter county definitely not a good idea.

By all accounts u17 celtic challenge lot of injuries n lot of u16s in squad. Twas serious ta win it last yr but beat laois well last wk but were goal down i saw on twitter at half time last nite n fell away second haf. Theres an u17 competion to nxt wk i heard so maybe dats the priority. The u16s bt clare few wks back to lad nxt door on it before bein well beatin by tipp. Been u16 club hurlin n football goin on to. Seems some lads and their "mates" just hear about the defeats. Everyone has right to an opinion but negativity a shockin ting.

Was down home for club training last night and got a full report on the game mind you all 2nd hand info so make what you want of it. By all accounts the team was a mish mash of some of this years minor panel, some 17s and some 16s. A lot of lads exam tied so cant be part of this set up, injuries did play a big part too Kiely and Hannon not even togged out. Fringe players on last years 15 squad got the full hours hurling assume this was due to poor numbers. Offaly well in the game till half time and lost there way in second half.
Something's to note that haven't changed by all accounts, players still doing water and hurls, big crowd at the game, M Cashin was seen speaking to Ger Maher for a long period of the second half what ever that was about???????????
Appears that this competition is only been used as prep for U17 Championship vs Kilkenny in 2 weeks time, no real push from the line during the game lots of lads getting a run out.

Actually made enquiries on this competition last night. 24 players listed at start of minor championship cannot play in it plus any exam tied players. Lad from Eyrecourt who's young lad playin with a Galway team sayin about 20 Co. Minors on the Galway teams in offalys group as they don't name their 24 until August. KK seemingly most of their u16 squad in it as they planning for next year. So diff teams diff plans. Offaly had huge no of 17yr olds on minor panel so they cant play as far as I know and a few good lads long term injured, and could have a lot of lads doin exams, plus we dont have the luxury of big numbers like other counties. Thats prob why u16s involved. Its a dev competition and prob be gone nxt year. So prob best if the double act using their copy and paste agenda every time Offaly underage play a game get a life and build a bridge. It's fairly obvious who the two of yee are. As Keyser said before "I'm no lover of the Offaly Co. Board (and they are bad) but their is two sides to the coin".

What's the big issue with panel members doing water and hurls? I remember Richie McCaw doing water for the All Blacks.

A 30 point hammering for the Laois minors today at the hands of Kilkenny starkly illustrates how far off the pace we are.

We are a dual county, Kilkenny ignore football. Your essential point is correct, however. Offaly need to keep developing the underage players if we are to have any hope of getting back to the top table.
What good does a 30 point margin do for either team?

Galway should not be allowed to enter basically half their minor squad!

I thought it was meant to be for U17s not getting on the minor squad? or not getting game time with the minor squad?
only the best...
