1) I would say that it's about 70/30 split where players want to play in favour of SBP..If they were all against playing in SBP the argument would not hold up but that's not the case. So for that reason I would say if the players wanna play in SBP shouldn't they be heard...Most recently Brian Carroll talked about Offaly hurlers wanting to play more games in Birr.

2) the fixtures committee obviously set up the fixtures, and on a number of occasions this year made a real b***s of it!

3 ) I don't get what you mean on point 3.

1) You didn't answer question no. 1. Is there any county in Ireland that don't play their Senior county finals in their county grounds? Maybe there are, but I don't know of them. There is a reason facilities like OCP cost the money to develop that they do. Players who reach a county final deserve to avail of this. I'm not as well up on this as you are, but I thought Brian Carroll was referring to intercounty games. OCP is a venue way ahead of SBP. You showcase your premier hurling event in your showcase venue, in my opinion. From what I have been reading here, there is no evidence that attendances are any different.

2) I would imagine that it's the CCC who fix games in Offaly like most counties. Yet you seem to think that Birr "gave" Tullamore the matches for a couple of years.

3) You seem to regulary state that "the hurling people of Offaly" are dying for a return to Birr. Well how do you know this? Has there been a survey or petition or whatever to determine this? I know there was some reference to support at a county board meeting in the last few weeks. What clubs/who supported it.

The overall point I am making is that your argument and points are (at best) ignorant and weak. You can't make general statements like "the hurling people want Birr" and expect that it is a strong enough argument.
You have one of the best county grounds in the country. Offaly is a small county geographically. You are not being asked to travel from West Cork to Pairc Ui Chaoimh. County finals played in the county ground are a perfectly natural match in my eyes and I have yet to read anything hear that makes me change my mind.

I pass SBP regularly and have been in there 2/3 times in the past couple of years- it looks well, and credit is due to Birr GAA. They should be rewarded with games, but not county finals in my opinion.
If they are approaching the matter in anything like the way you (and a few others) do on here, well I'm not surprised they are getting very little hop at County Board level.

Some of your points are totally ridiculous and inaccurate, some of the CB officials have ruined Offaly hurling making bad decision after bad decision!

Birr played nice ball with them and it was rubbed in there face so I have no problem coming on here and saying what I really think, I am hurling fan I am entitled too!!

Firstly OCP is not way ahead SBP it's nicer and has bigger dressing rooms the pitch itself is on par with SBP so I wouldn't say its streets ahead take into the millions they spend towards all the money Birr raised and voluntary work that was done.

I would imagine there is some pitches that play there county finals in the ground that suits best..why play it in OCP when it's too big and there is little or not atmosphere there on county final day it makes no sense.

You are totally wrong on the attendance as attendances have been up in SBP and if you look back through posts you will see that!

The CCC fix the matches -you mid understood what I said.
The county final was moved out of birr while they re- developed the pitch the funny thing is when it was finished they never got the fixtures they use to get before the closing of SBP why because the CCC are the CB give them to the county ground.

At the CB meeting 10 clubs backed Birr looking for the semi finals this was backed with 9 clubs from the south and 1 from the north (clara). Which was great considering there was no vote or anything.

I am from Birr I speak to people from other clubs it's common knowledge the general public want matches back in Birr...ex offaly players have been on sub committees to try get the CB to listen..but they are closing the door in the publics faces everytime! They won't Listen.

I don't think we should get all games I just think south offaly has lost its focus what use to be hurling it's not anymore and one of the reasons is the loss of county finals in SBP.

Ok, lets take your last post;
greenairfield wrote:, some of the CB officials have ruined Offaly hurling making bad decision after bad decision!
Aside from the fact that almost every club and county board officer in the country has been accused of this in the past, what has this got to do with the discussion we are having?
greenairfield wrote: I have no problem coming on here and saying what I really think, I am hurling fan I am entitled too!!.
Just because you (and some people you know) want something, it doesn't mean it is the right thing to do.
greenairfield wrote:Firstly OCP is not way ahead SBP it's nicer and has bigger dressing rooms the pitch itself is on par with SBP so I wouldn't say its streets ahead take into the millions they spend towards all the money Birr raised and voluntary work that was done.
Does OCP not trump Birr in every one of the following areas;
Stand quality, Terrace quality, Size of pitch, Entry/Exit system, Press facilities, Dressing Rooms. etc etc
So basically you are saying that the pitch is on par with the other. I'll take your word for it. But OCP is surely bigger. Therefore Birr has NO advantage over Tullamore. Atmosphere is a moot point when it comes to a county final- there will be atmosphere.
greenairfield wrote:You are totally wrong on the attendance as attendances have been up in SBP and if you look back through posts you will see that!.
Ok, tell me where attendances have been up on the previous attendances at OCP?
greenairfield wrote:The CCC fix the matches -you mid understood what I said.
I didn't misunderstand what you said. You used the word "gave"- and this to me sums up what appears to be a sense of entitlement that Birr must get county finals etc. That they are entitled to them. I have no idea if this is the line that Birr GAA are taking- but you and a few others on here are.
greenairfield wrote:At the CB meeting 10 clubs backed Birr looking for the semi finals this was backed with 9 clubs from the south and 1 from the north (clara). Which was great considering there was no vote or anything.
How many clubs are there in Offaly? I'd guess 15/16 that play hurling and maybe 38/40 in total?
10 clubs out of 38/40 doesn't constitute a majority. (And here is where you tell me that it is a hurling decision. Well the problem is that you are part of Offaly GAA, not Offaly Hurling Board. This is how the GAA works).
greenairfield wrote:I don't think we should get all games
No- but you want the county final- I don't think you are entitled to it (no matter who is in it)
greenairfield wrote: I just think south offaly has lost its focus what use to be hurling it's not anymore and one of the reasons is the loss of county finals in SBP.
Sorry now but that is absolute nonsense. It's Tullamore it's played in not Templemore.

Keyser, to answer an earlier question, not all finals are in county grounds. Last weekend the Monaghan football final was not in Clones. Kerry hurling also tends to be in Tralee, close to their hurling heartland of North Kerry.

Hearty congrats to Clodiagh Gaels. Intermediate and Junior A champs in only their second year of exsistence, a truly marvellous achievement. It goes to show what can be achieved when everyone pulls together and sings of the one hymn sheet. I think they also contested the Junior B final. When you consider that the second team of both Senior County finalists ended up bottom of their respective groups at intermediate level, shows how difficult it is to have more than one competitive team. Super achievement to have 3 teams competitive, surely in line for Club of the Year now?

Well done to clodiagh gaels brilliant achievement, I have no doubt they will be a serious challenge in senior ranks if they can get 3-4 years at the level under their belts. Great work going on with their underage and winning the inter and juniorA will create a solid foundation for the club and give the young lads coming up a bright future .

Huge congrats to Clodiagh Gaels.

Serious achievement on winning both Juniour A and Intermediate. A reward to the people who put in a lot of hard work put into NA Fianna over the past 10 to 15 years and coming together making the correct decision to bring all the parish clubs together. This should be done for football also. We need our lads competing at the highest levels possible.

Best of luck in Senior in 2017 and hope to see some Gaels players getting a chance in the county jersey also.. #bringhurlingbacktokilleigh... HON THE GAELS!!

Great year for the Gaels, after just one year in existence. Looking forward to next year, it will be a challenge. The decision to amalgamate has been vindicated, and great work done by all the volunteers involved with Na Fianna at underage level.
We have a football semi final v Kilclonfert tomorrow night. Throw in at 8pm in Geashill.

Continuing the great year for Clodiagh Gaels, I hear Killeigh native Leonard Fay has been appointed to referee the Galway Senior county final on Sunday.
Pat Donegan. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.

Leonard is from the Gurteen/Killurin area. His father is a native of Cavan, they moved to the area many years ago.

Birr v St. Rynaghs

Right lads Sunday is fast approaching who is going to win it?

I am going with Birr purely because on paper they have better individuals than Banagher and if these individuals show up St.Rynaghs could be in trouble.

Rynaghs have been the form team over the course of the championship but showed they are very beatable in the semi final, Birr are the only unbeaten team in 2016, so if they win on Sunday they would be worthy winners!!

I am going to go with Birr by 4...but must also state if they don't show up and freeze it could be Rynaghs to bring home!!
