Offaly GAA Press Release:
'The Committee to oversee the implementation of the Offaly GAA Hurling Pathway has been announced and sees former Offaly hurler and Coolderry captain Brian Carroll take on the role of Director of Hurling Coaching.
'The Portlaoise based School teacher will be joined on the committee by Liam Hogan All-Ireland medallist from 1981, who chaired the Hurling review, Tom Moloney acting Games Manager, Pat Cleary Coaching Officer and All-Ireland medallist from 1985, Rory Hanniffy who recently retired from Offaly senior hurling, David Kenny who missed the last couple of season with Offaly due to injury and is a secondary school teacher in St Brendan’s Community School, Ger Scales from St Rynagh’s who is also a Secondary school teacher in Kilcormac, current Offaly Camogie star Marian Crean and Mary Wyer, both of whom are primary teachers and former Offaly All-Ireland winning medallist Cillian Farrell who is a qualified Strength and Conditioning Coach.
'The Committee was introduced to the clubs of Offaly at a meeting in Kilcormac on Wednesday night and the emphasis was very much on the success of this being driven by clubs with the support of the implementation group and Offaly County Board through its Coaching & Games Committee. It was stressed that this is an ongoing work in progress plan which will be updated on a continuous basis and which will only work if clubs have the right personnel in place filling the important roles of Club Coaching Officer and School Liaison Officer.
'The plan, which was launched earlier this summer, was the culmination of months of work by a review committee set up by Offaly County Board Chairperson Padraig Boland and which comprised originally of Kieran Keeneghan (Chairman) St Rynaghs, Diarmuid Healy Conaghy Shamrocks, Damien Martin St Rynaghs, Pat Cleary (County Coaching Officer) Ballinamere/Durrow, Pat O’Connor Coolderry, Martin Hanamy St Rynaghs and Liam Hogan Coolderry. The Committee subsequently evolved and expanded, under the Chairmanship of Liam Hogan and the following were added Alan Mulhall Games Manager Walsh Island, Finian McDermott Tullamore, Marion Crean Secretary (Camogie/Primary Schools) Shinrone, Mary Wyer PRO (Camogie/Primary Schools) Tullamore, Ger Scales (Post Primary Schools) St Rynaghs and Jimmy O Dwyer Leinster Council.'

He needs to direct all the people who do the coaching and oversee the work. He himself should not be taking sessions or doing workshops. He should be making sure clubs are are doing the work. Development squads are been done right and that there is good work been done in the schools. He should be implemented plans and making sure they are carried out. For example the hurling plan that was delayed for so long. A director of hurling would make that no delay would occur and it is fully implemented. Bypassing the county board.
What I would be most interested in is how much power he has and who he has to answer to. I'd be amazed if he lasted 5 years with a heavy workload and a county board dragging it's heels over anything that might cost money.
"Offaly's hurling review committee have resigned en masse.
The group headed by former Ballyboden manager Liam Hogan, who authored a report on hurling in the Faithful County last year decided to step down in frustration at Offaly County Board's implementation of their recommendations.
Among those to resign are Director of Hurling Brian Carroll, who was appointed to the coaching and development committee alongside Hogan and former Offaly camogie captain Marion Crean.
Offaly's link up with Athlone IT has also come to and end, it had previously been seen as a cornerstone of the Faithful County's attempts to improve the strength and conditioning of their young players."
