Under 21 Football Leinster Quarter Final

Post by Exiled in Connacht »

Full time result from tonight - Kildare 2-14 : Offaly 1-06

Disappointing result , at half time we were only 3 pts down 1-04 to 0-04

Writing was on the wall at HT, having played with gale & rain behind us & a goal down...

The S & C difference between the teams was massive,,,,,,,, we have a lot of catching to do....

Do be honest we should have been beaten by a lot more.

We were thrown around like rag dolls. Kildare where bigger stronger and faster, everything a football team has to be nowadays.

Wasn't at the game so cannot comment. But the only thing I can say is that 2 years ago (or 3 whenever it was) that we beat them in Gracefield, their S & C was far superior to us and we still beat them.

Bottom line is that our preparation was poor and commitment to training wasn't there.

Mess up by county board over the appointment...so doomed from the start.

Disappointing for all involved, but there needs to be a look at a Junior team in Offaly, and backbone with a few of these guys who look like they will be good enough to make the step up to senior in the coming couple of years.

But most of all, establishing what we want from our u21 team, I believe that needs to be clarified in order to ensure that the U21 squad gets the time and space to prepare adequately,

That night in Gracefield Kildare were wiped by their own stupid tactics and they quickly got rid of the culprit.........

We won since that in Athy with a good performance but our standard of S & C, fitness etc is just not good enough....

We were also silly early on, with our 15 kicking a good score and then running over to ht his marker a shoulder. Now a lot of refs will let that go but last night it got him a Yellow so he had to be on best behaviour for 55 minutes.

Couple of minutes later our 14 did a lazy, typical forwards, drag back & he got Black & our ball-winning chances up front were gone.

Both harsh but Cards were being handed out like confetti for 45 mins or so and we needed to be cleverer.

Having said all that we will probably get as many for senior from this group as Kildare will from theirs which is the real objective of the grade,,
