Four Senior matches on Friday evening, two on Saturday and none on Sunday.

Now i know it's impossible to suit everyone when fixture making, and there's probably not a man or woman alive who'd be going to more that three of them anyway, but is there any particular reason for the imbalance on this occasion?

Senior Fixtures are –

Friday 17th (7.45pm)
Belmont v St Rynagh’s at Lusmagh
Clareen v Ballinamere at Rath
Birr v Brosna Gaels at Kilcormac
Kilcormac-Killoughey v Shinrone at Tellamore

Saturday 18th
(4.45pm) Coolderry v Kinnitty at Birr
(7pm) Tellamore v Shamrocks in Tellamore

Intermediate fixtures are –

Saturday 18th
(3pm) Clareen v Ballyskenagh-Killavilla at Birr
(7pm) Lusmagh v Drumcullen at Crinkill
(7pm) Clodiagh Gaels v Carrig & Riverstown at Kinnitty

Sunday 19th (12 noon)
Kilcormac-Killoughey v Coolderry at Kinnitty

Monday 20th (7.45pm)
St Rynagh’s v Crinkill at Moystown

Birr v Brosna Gaels has been switched to Sunday evening at Kilcormac, while the Friday evening matches now throw in at 7.30pm owing to fading daylight.

As for the weekend's Senior matches, not a preview, rather a few observations and stuff.

Clareen play Ballinamere for the very first time in the Senior hurling championship.

Shamrocks and Tellamore meet for the first time since 2005, an occasion when Shamrocks won 0-20 to 1-13

Having equalled Birr’s record of 26 SHC matches without defeat last time out, Kilcormac-killoughey aim to make the record their own when they face Shinrone. K-K haven’t faced Shinrone at all during their unbeaten run, the sides last having met in 2010 at Kinnitty when K-K win 3-15 to 0-19. Shinrone last beat K-K in 2001 (4-6 to 1-14).

St Rynagh’s v Belmont is now an annual event, this their fifth meeting in as many years, with each having won twice.

Coolderry have won the last four times they met Kinnitty in the SHC with Kinnitty’s last win being the 2008 semi-final.

Birr and Brosna Gaels meet for the third time in the SHC, Birr winning in 2012 and 2013 by 3 and 4 points respectively.

If anyone has the time would they mind listing the club senior hurling managers for all teams?

KK v Shinrone in Tullamore tonight. Is there no more central venue in South Offaly to host this game, Ie Birr, Clareen, to host this game? A long trip for Shinrone.

From the sanctuary of North Offaly, that surely seems like a scandalous ask of Shinrone!
Maybe the CB want present KK with an acknowledgement of there record breaking run if they beat the Shinners?

Somehow ironic that, barely 48 hours after Kilcormac-Killoughey take Birr’s unbeaten record and make it their own, that Birr should take a record back for themselves. For the 5-34 (49 points) is a new scoring record in a single match, beating by one point the 13-9 Drumcullen scored against Kinnitty in 1941.

Apparently Shinrone asked that their match against Kilcormac be played at headquarters, a decision which shows ambition. If they are to win the title they will have to win at least twice at the venue, so they might as well take any opportunities to hurl there.

I was at the Rynagh’s v Belmont match on Friday evening. A terrible game, in which both teams struggled to create any kind of attacking space on what is the biggest club pitch there is in the county. And being reduced to 14 men for the entirety of the second half did nothing to open the game up. Belmont don’t score much anyway, and their once-nippy forwards have lost pace. St Rynagh’s played to the Franny Forde dictum of maintaining possession and stickpassing their way up the field. But beyond midfield the plan is falling down somewhere and that needs to be rectified.

The other match I saw was the Drumcullen v Lusmagh IHC match. Drumcullen were well placed at half-time when they led 0-11 to 0-9 despite hurling into the wind. They took some time to adapt to the seventh defender Lusmagh employed for much of the second half but with Damien Spain in impressive form at midfield there was only going to be one winner. They will top their group now and at this stage look the IHC’s most likely winners.

Just wondering does anyone know how many teams are coming out of each group? I heard someone say only 3 coming out of Junior A and 4 from Senior and Intermediate? Can anyone confirm this?

As far as I know there is 3 teams coming out of the junior b and junior a and 4 teams coming out intermediate and senior but with a lot of deciding games last weekend it did cause a lot of confusion at some of the games I was at. Last year it was 4 teams from every group and im sure it was well documented at the time the draws were being made but I cant see anything on the Offaly website stating the formats.

Spend the Weekend in France at a wedding drink champagne but still make the friday night game. Kilcormac Killoughey vs Shinrone.
Its was a poor game. Kilcoramc Killoughey played againist the wind but keep head of Shinrone until just before half time when shinrone finally began using the wind and pick off some nice long range points.
Shinrone wasted the wind with to much short passing or bad passes in on top of the two healions.
Kilcormac Killoughey in the second half controlled most of the second half. but like shinrone did use the wind correctly. Going for points for 100 yards when there was space or players in better positions. Kilcormac Killoughey lost one of it corner back and moved Kevin Gorgan back which was maddness. There Half back just isn't the same with him not in it.
Shinrone got a goal with a few mins to go and had a great goal chance save in the last few mins. The save end up with the kilcomac killoughey goalie lie on the ball and the ref gave a 21 yard free. (by the way the kilcormac killoughey goalie got a good slap of the Shinrone forward hurl when lie on the ball lucky the umpire didn't see it). The 21 free was saved and that ended the match.
Overall a poor game. Wind didn't help.
James Gorman was the best player on the field. Micheal Cleary was excellent at full back.
“Common sense is not so common.”

Next weekend’s SHC and IHC fixtures

Friday 7th August
SHC – Ballinamere v Tullamore at OCP at 7pm

Saturday 8th August
SHC – Shamrocks v Belmont at OCP at 5pm
SHC – Kilcormac v Kinnitty at OCP at 6.30pm
SHC – ’Rynagh’s v Clareen at Rath at 6.30pm

Sunday 9th August
SHC – Brosna Gaels v Cooldery at Moystown at 11.30am
IHC – Crinkill v Clodiagh Gaels at Clareen at 12 noon
IHC – ’Rynagh’s v Birr at Lusmagh at 12 noon
IHC – Kilcormac v Clareen at Rath at 5.30pm
IHC – Lusmagh v Ballyskenagh-Killavilla at Birr at 5.30pm
SHC – Birr v Shinrone at Birr at 6.30pm

Now I know making fixtures is a difficult task and you can’t please everyone, but . . .

. . . Six Senior matches and three of them are at headquarters.

. . . Two Intermediate matches throw in at precisely the time Kilkenny v Waterford comes to a conclusion

. . . One of them is at Birr, a club who hardly ever provide linesmen

. . . depending on who’s refereeing, there won’t be neutral umpires either

. . . will provision be made for neutral linesmen for the Birr v Shinrone match at Birr?
