Could be a long day at the office for Offaly on Saturday. I was talking to a probable starter on the team over the weekend and his demeanour and opinion didn't exactly fill me with hope to be honest. Clare are operating at a completely different level to Offaly and while I would love to see Clare play with a bit more freedom than they currently do (Davy seems to have a tactical strait-jacket on some of his players) at least they have a gameplan all the players are aware of. The same can't be said for Offaly. A good start for Clare and Offaly could fold big time.

Re: Offaly vs Clare - 2015 Senior Hurling Qualifier R1
Just been listening to a great half hours radio on Off the Ball on Newstalk.
Michael Duignan and Anthony Daly speaking about 1998.They covered everything including how as Duignan recalls in his book about him meeting Jimmy Cooney years later at the Galway races and having a great clear the air chat.
Also Paul Galvin was part of the Kerry under 21 hurling team who didn't get to play their game because of the sit down on the pitch. He was a good hurler I believe. Has he an AI club medal at Junior or Intermediate ?
Sad to hear Anthony Daly say that he never saw the 1998 AI final as his brother aged 40 dropped dead that day in London. That and Paudie Mulhare's fathers death puts sport into perspective I guess.
Anyway its well worth a listen back to if ye get a chance.

I enjoyed the Newstalk piece with Anthony Daly and Michael Duignan earlier. Michael Duignan has been speaking openly and honestly about his slap across David Forde for a long time now, and probably will for a long time to come and there are Klare people who just won’t get it. That’s their difficulty, I suppose.
Paul Galvin, being from Lixnaw, was a hurler first. This was revealed in an interview he did with Sliotar magazine in 2010 and was described as “serious hurling talent” by locals. He did play in that U21 ‘B’ All-Ireland in 1998 and scored 1-2 when the Final eventually took place, which it did in Croke Park a week later, played before the All-Ireland Minor football semi-final which was played before the kIldare v Kerry Senior football semi-final. Kerry won by a point. Klare revisionists like to claim Kerry and Kildare never did get to hurl in Croke Park.
That Klare revisionism will be rife over the next few days. There was a GAA conspiracy to ‘get’ Klare, Barry Murphy was bearing down on goal when Jimmy Cooney blew the final whistle etc. Setting the record straight here’s a piece I wrote seven years ago on August 1998.

Not only did Klare 'offer' Offaly the replay and Barry Murphy being a nailed on cert to score, but also Offaly supporters ripped up the pitch as part of their protest!

In his book, Galvin said he delighted that Offaly protest had left their match called off. His reasoning was that the Kerry panel had gone wild in Malahide the night before on the sauce and were in no fit state to hurl that day. A week later they were better prepared and won, so he was thankful for Offaly for winning him an U21B All Ireland medal.Plain of the Herbs wrote: Paul Galvin, being from Lixnaw, was a hurler first. Get hammered by Laois and they make one forced change. Holy fuck, is there no subs left? Are we just going down with the bare 15? This is going to be embarrassing, predicted score line 2-32 1-13.

Unbelievable. Surely this is a dummy team! It sounds like the management are just fulfilling the fixture and have no interest in setting up a team that would show some kind of resistance.Toxicity234 wrote:James Dempsey;
