Re: Offaly v Waterford Football Qualifier
Team for Saturday has been announced. Same 15 as Longford game.
1. Alan Mulhall
2. Brian Darby
3. Paul McConway (Capt)
4. Daithi Brady
5. Niall Darby
6. Johnny Moloney
7. Joseph O’Connor
8. Graham Guilfoyle
9. Niall Smith
10. Eoin Carroll
11. Niall McNamee
12. Anton Sullivan
13. Bernard Allen
14. Nigel Dunne
15. William Mulhall
They kept the heads down these last few weeks and not a word from the camp which is the way to go about things and is the way they have been doing it under Flanagan.
Should have 4 or 5 points to spare over what is a poor Waterford side.

That's a decent Offaly side. Good luck to Offaly this weekend!
Re: Offaly v Waterford Football Qualifier
Its good to see all the lads are still there and best of luck tomorrow, we are on the better side of the back door and with a favourable draw might get a bit of a run, will get saturday out of the way first.
The 4 winners from saturday can play Clare, Dublin or Kildare, Monaghan or Fermanagh, Roscommon or Sligo.

Re: Offaly v Waterford Football Qualifier
I'm reminded of the sky sports ad that's running at the moment for F1
Reporter to Lewis Hamilton: "Lewis not the way you wanted to finish the race (after coming second to teammate Nico Rosberg) what do you do now"?
Lewis Hamilton: "Win the next one" (he did)
If the team can take this approach to the match they will win, simple as in my book

Re: Offaly v Waterford Football Qualifier
Waterford can't handle the ball moving at pace, either through the hands or more direct. If Offaly play in a similar style to the way they played against Longford in Croker, or even at times in OCP, they'll win handy. Waterford's best players are their #8 and #9 v Tipp. #8 was a shaggy haired lad who never stopped running even in the face of a massacre, while #9 kicked a couple of lovely scores from the wing forward position.
That said, their basics were cat. But Tipperary did exactly the right thing. They came out at pace and blew them away early. That sucked the life out of them. Offaly will have to do the same. If they let Waterford get a good start, then at home they will make it very difficult. Get out, kill them off, and get on the bus home job done.
Best of luck lads. I'm heading down to it myself, so hope to see a good performance and a much needed championship win.

Re: Offaly v Waterford Football Qualifier
I pulled out an old GAA supporters' handbook from a box. It's vague on directions to Fraher Field but does say the ground is on the north-west of the town, close to the main ring road. It's also adjacent to the Colligan river, so if you can get to where the ring-road crosses the river (there seems to be a roundabout there too) you should be close enough.

Re: Offaly v Waterford Football Qualifier
assuming the OY support are coming via Clonmel(25 minutes from Dungarvan)....when you enter the town, turn left at the first roundabout, then about 500 metres to the next roundabout, the park hotel is stationed beside this roundabout, and the pitch is just behind the hotel, very easy to find.

Re: Offaly v Waterford Football Qualifier
Final result - Offaly 1-20 Waterford 1-7. We were down a point at half time.
A win is a win I suppose even if Waterford are poor.
Better than last year anyway when we lost to Wicklow

Offaly were ahead by a point at half time. Won in second half, important to get a win.Exiled in Connacht wrote:Final result - Offaly 1-20 Waterford 1-7. We were down a point at half time.

Re: Offaly v Waterford Football Qualifier
Delighted for the team to get a good result. It would have been a pity if the last 20 minutes vs Longford defined the year.
20 years ago this summer an Offaly man (1980 Leinster hurling medal winner) put Dungarvan on the map. Today's win might be a little less historic and memorable.

Re: Offaly v Waterford Football Qualifier
The signs are encouraging indeed. After the Longford game a few could have fecked off to the US. Some could have just dropped off the panel, others could have gone on the beer. It appears none of these happened and they kept working away and it has resulted in the biggest winning margin for the footballers in the championship in 12 years.
The Kildare game (Yes I'm completely dismissing their chances against Dublin) is ideal. They should be coming off a hammering won't be fancying a trip to Tullamore. A win would be massive and could be enough to break through that physiological barrier that Flanagan has mentioned and finally have this team believe they can close out games.
