Best of luck to the lads this evening in Longford and hopefully a good few try to make the journey up to the game.
I think inroads are atrating to be made, u14 to u16, what really needs to happen is that there is more joined up thinking and that what is happening with these squads is being transferred to the clubs. They need to roll out the same process and increase the pool of potential options to the county managers. And in the schools, especially around Tullamore.

Draw match, 11 points each.
Disappointing having led 7-3 at halftime having played very good stuff at times, but outplayed in the 2nd half, lost shape badly and lucky to pull it out of the fire in the end.
Great character to rescue what would have been a sickening loss had it happened.

All to play for next day...

Went across this evening to watch these lads and again they didnt let us down. Good crowd from Offaly there too to support. Maybe its one that got away but maybe lucky to be still there too. We played serious stuff in first half without putting it on scoreboard and should have been more than 4 ahead. That said, they were much the better team in 2nd half and probably should have taken us missing one or 2 goal chances....the ref, while maybe seeming biased, made some horrendous calls against Offaly in second half .... If we played in the second half like we played in first we'd have won comfortably..fitness seemed to be an issue for a good few lads as we were out on our feet in last ten minutes..... But it was a draw and hopefully it will be played a little closer to home the next day!!

Spoke to a man involved in the development end of Offaly GAA today and he told me that most likely to go ahead on Friday 23rd of Sep but nothing set in stone just yet..... (venue or date)..... He also told me what i have already known......that this particular group have done very well through dev. squad years and have a great chance of winning this trophy..... hopefully a few Offaly supporters that havent seen these lads play get out and support them......

Won 3-14 to 5-5. Played super for the first 25 minutes of the first half, leading 2-5 to 1-1 at a stage, but a crazy 5 minute spell before half time saw Westmeath score 2-1 to wipe out the lead; draw match at half time.
Offaly again dominated the first 20 minutes of the 2nd half, and opened up an 8 point lead, but again Westmeath hit 2 late goals and could have snatched it but for trying to walk the ball into the net. Well done to the lads for hanging on in the end; the first time Offaly's name will appear on the Fr Manning Cup.

Travelled across for the replay last night and i have to say it was entertaining but not good for the heart..... Offaly were much the better team throughout but the concession of 5 goals nearly cost them..... Offaly conceded an early goal but then raced into the lead with some fantastic play scoring 2-4 without replay against a strong breeze to lead by 6..... Then 2 goals and point from WH left it level at half time on 2-5 to westmeath 3-2.......

Offaly came roaring in the second half and scored about 1- 6 without reply at start of second half. Westmeath responded with a goal with 10 left and got another with 5 left to leave it very close at the end..... Offaly got their scores a lot easier than westmeath which was nice to see and it finished 3-14 to 5-5.....

I have to say that this Offaly team are a good strong unit and move the ball very well at times. They nearly ran out of steam again last night but it was a fantastic win and the 1st time we won the cup which is a fair measure of our stature at this level...... (won shield a few years ago....competition for bottom 4 teams). The presenter last night deemed it the most prestigious competition at U16 level in the country with 8 teams competing from Leinster, Ulster and Connaught.....

Speaking to a selector last night after, he said that Offaly would be even stronger if some of the Ferbane lads would commit to playing which is a fair statement given that Ferbane would be the team to beat at 16 level in Offaly just now...... These lads are a credit to Offaly and hopefully they will be kept together.

Their management also deserve a lot of credit and in a time where Offaly GAA is on its knees almost, the county board need to ensure that these guys are given the right opportunities to work with this crop going forward. With a nephew involved and hearing what has gone on behind the scenes and results they are getting against the best in the country, id have to say that the members of this management team have done great work for Offaly GAA with some of them not even from the county....

It wont be possible to keep them together because as soon as they go to adult level they will split away from the parish teams that they played with together for so long at underage. This is where a junior and intermediate team would come in handy for the county

Well done to the lads here.
I think the issue about keeping them together is a valid on, but one of the issues is what work is done with them between now and minor.
Another issue if the commitment of many of these lads to other sports, and this wasa big issue for our minors this year. Natural talent will get you so far up to u16 but again, if we want to compete then lads need to commit strongly to football.

The idea of a junior team to introduce more players to county football from minor & u21 is an opportunity.

Instead of lumping this in with Offaly GAA in some state,

Interestingly

Kildare have played their 3 games, winning against Offaly and Roscommon, but losing to Leitrim

Roscommon have lost to Kildare and Offaly and beat Leitrim

So look like a winner take all for Offaly v Leitrim? Any word on this game?

This is a good solid Offaly side who are working hard on the S&C side of things and should give a good account of themselves in 2 years time, and a nice few should get in as part of nest years minor team.
