Offaly lost again today, don,t know the score, but I would be questioning McDonnell's commitment to the U-21s. He started the same team that were well bet by Cavan last week. I would think with the first round of the U21 starting on the 14th of Feb that the full team should of been out today instead of leaving the U21 players who are Senior for Kildare tomorrow. I think McDonnell is a lot more focused on the Seniors to the detriment of the U21s. But maybe he is trying lads too.......

According to GAA.ie here are the results (can't confirm anything other than what is on the website):

Round 3
Offaly 0-9 | Leitrim 0-11
Time: 2 30 PM, Venue: FerbaneReferee: Michael Mannion

Offaly were in a group with Cavan and Leitrim, so they lost both games. Cavan got to the final and here is their result:

Hastings Cup Final
Final
Longford 1-9 | Cavan 0-10
Time: 2 30 PM, Venue: Keenan ParkReferee: Declan Hunt

I am not thinking that Pascal should have got the job over McDonnell. McDonnell is more than capable of doing, at the least, as good a job as Pascal. Its just little things that make me question how serious he is about the U-21s. He has done an absolutely fantastic job with the Seniors and I hope he remains as Offaly manager for many more years. However, in the O' Byrne cup you could hear McDonnell's voice booming across the pitch to the stand before and during matches and from being at U-21 matches and talking to players on the U-21 panel he does not seem to display any of this passion on the field or in the dressing room. Also the championship is less than a month away and he has not started his best 15 yet.I cannot help but wonder did he take on the U-21s so to avoid the issue of availability of U-21 players for the Seniors which appears to be his main focus to the detriment of the U-21 guys. Offaly have a favorable draw too, Laois and then Wicklow and then the Leinster Final. Two games to get to a Leinster final. Just a thought but other than that he is doing wonders for Offaly football.

Interesting point Boomcha about the u21 player availability issue with the Senior and the reasoning behind taking the job.

I hear that Seniors and u21s are training together, then they are getting the full attention of McDonnell. At the end of the day, Div 4 exit is a priority, and it is up to him to manage this properly. We have had enough bickering over this between managers.
Its about balance at the end of the day. We need to try and manage players as best we can and at least the u21 is played during the week?

We have a big overlap between the 2 panels and personally I would like to see the U21's being spared where we can but ultimately, failure to win our first 2 games in Div 4 would cost us promotion. So we need to put out our strongest team, and looking at the teamsheets so far, he has tended to pick his strongest 15 as he sees it.
I thought we play Meath in the first round of the u21, must look that up.

Boomcha, the U21's play Laois in the first round with the winners home to Wicklow in a Q/F. The winners of this plays Meath or Louth v Kildare at home in a S/F.

Grand job......I was misinformed............a bit trickier so ............and they won tonight against Westmeath in a challenge and a few of the players on both Senior and U-21 panels started.....so fairplay to them! Maybe I spoke prematurely...
