OFFALY 1.16 DOWN 2.13

Post by black and red exile »

Don't be fooled by the scoreline, this was as gentle a challenge as I have ever witnessed, Down were minus some big hitters, Clarke, Coulter, Poland, Hughes and McVeigh were the major stars missing, both teams chopped and changed all the way through as you would expect. With very blustery conditions played at the bottom of a mountain and a whore of a hill Down went in leading 1.4 to 0.5 at half time playing down the hill, in the second half both taems swapped scores numerous times with Ken Casey netting for Offaly after receiving a pass from Pauric Bracken. It was the kind of game that you couldn't pick out players that stood out with all the changes, I suppose Sean Ryan, Ciaran Mac, Nigel Dunne and Ken Casey stirred themselves to rise above the walk in the park mentality of both teams, nothing really learned just a gentle workout for both panels.
It was interesting to note that Down spent last night in city west and travelled by coach whereas our lads all came in cars, it was strange then that Down didn't have more urgency in the game with what looked like a more professional approach to it.
