Re: Offaly team for NUIG walsh cup - 15/01/2011
Yes, but I think the general point people are making is that they don't have much confidence in where Offaly hurling is at present. The last 12 months has seen the minors narrowly beat Westmeath, the u21s loose heavily to Kk, the seniors just about survive in div 1(good performances in 2 champ games), the senior county club champions loose to Westmeath champions and the intermediate ones loose heavily to Kk junior ones. I know it's not directly related to yesterday but you would have to be concerned that Offaly is slipping and why is this? If things aren't broken, don't mend them but this wouldn't seem to be the case. I m not critical of the players who make the sacrifices to commit. But other posters have mentioned those who aren't there. Why is this? The county board has appointed managers to key teams based vitally solely on their hurling carriers rather than coaching abilities. Would you not agree that there is a need to reform things up there a bit?

serious questions has to be asked.
you get the job if you have the name not what you know about the game it is a click from what i see same people all the time .
i would love to see us do well this year in both codes footballers got off to a good start
lets hope the hurlers performe against cork what would you call a good result narrow defeat? perhaps.
lets get behind the team up Offaly

Old yellar - I think carlow have been making great strides in hurling and Offaly need to match your organisation at underage and beyond to try to make our own progress again.
The days when we can thump Carlow with a 2nd string are long gone I think because Carlow have improved and also we are no great shakes.
until 1980 we had won eff all in hurling. Carlow just need to keep believing and working hard and they'll get the breaks they have earned eventually.
In Leinster only Kilkenny and Galway can have a superiority complex as all other counties on a given day are beatable.
I'd love to see Carlow come through and win senior games in Leinster. It would be great for hurling down there. ( although obviously I'd prefer it wasn't against us !)
Good to hear David Kenny is okay. It sounded bad when I heard about it.

David Kenny says he was grand !!
Copied from Hogan Stand website - thanks !
Offaly's David Kenny has rubbished that he has lost feeling in his arm after suffering concussion during Saturday's abandoned Walsh Shield final.
The game against Carlow at Dr Cullen Park was brought to a sudden end three minutes into extra-time when the London-based defender was knocked out after landing awkwardly, but he has since reported no ill effects and is hopeful that he will be fit in time to line-out against Galway in the NHL next Sunday week.
"It kind of looked worse than it was when the game was stopped," Kenny told the Irish Examiner.
"I was knocked out for a small bit, but with the game being called off there was more made of it. I only got pins and needles in my arm. I don't know where the report of me losing feeling in my arm came out of.
"It was just a bang to the back of the head. I can't remember the incident, just waking up and people all around me. By that stage, it was getting dark and really wet do they thought it best to call it off at that stage.
"The doctor there was great and they took every precaution, but it looked worse than it really was."

A statue of David Kenny should be built in recognition of his dedication to Offaly hurling this year. Incredible and much appreciated by this supporter.
Whatever politician promises that gets my No.1!
P.S: Actually Ciaran McManus deserves one as well. In gold.
