The Dubs hurlers are getting worse than the footballers. Having all their qualifier games in Croke Park last year including their "neutral" game v Antrim.

The County Board owes us an explanation over this. It is going to take our best performance in a number of years to beat them up there. If it was in Portloaise, where it should be, it's a 50/50 game

The last fixture was a qualifier, not Leinster championship, thus it would have no bearing on the venue for this game.

The Leinster council got burned last year by fixing games for neutral venues as very small attendances turned up and so have decided where possible to stage games at home venues. There must have been a toss of a coin to determine home advantage

Something tells me that for 2012 we'll be keeping an eye on the Sterling exchange rates as we get ready for a trip to Belfast. Or maybe Down will win next year's Christy Ring Cup and will be in Leinster the following year. We'll be watching for high tide around Strangford as we book the ferry to Ballycran.

It would have been difficult enough to get a result against Dublin at neutral ground, Offaly now have a mountain to climb if they are to win in that bear-pit. Ah well, maybe the Galway - Dublin semi-final will be in Tullamore.

LEINSTER hurling championship games could be played in Pearse Stadium and Casement Park by 2012, if Galway and Antrim retain their eastern links.

Games involving Galway and Antrim were played at Leinster venues for the past two seasons and while the same will apply in 2011, change may be on the way after that. Galway and Antrim joined the Leinster championship for an initial three years which expires next season, after which all parties will assess the state of play.

Leinster Council chief-executive, Michael Delaney said that from their perspective, the participation of Galway and Antrim had worked well.

"It's added a bit of excitement which was good for the championship. It's up to Galway and Antrim to decide on how they see the arrangement, but so far I think it's positive," he said.

He indicated that if Galway and Antrim were to remain in Leinster on a permanent basis, the question of venues for their games would become an issue. He said that Leinster would "be open to talks" about playing some games in Pearse Stadium and Casement Park as part of the extended 'home and away' arrangements now favoured by the Council.

Both Galway and Antrim will concede home advantage again next year, according to provisional arrangements, which will come before the Leinster Council for ratification next week. Antrim will travel to Portlaoise to take on Laois, while Galway will play Westmeath or Carlow in Cusack Park or Dr Cullen Park.

The final will be the only Leinster hurling game played in Croke Park. The semi-finals will be played on separate days and while the venues won't be decided until the pairings are finalised, it's understood if Wexford qualify to play Kilkenny it will be the start of a 'home' and 'away' system.

Laois will do well with home venues next year as their footballers will also have their first round clash with Longford in Portlaoise in a double header with Kildare v Wicklow on May 22. Dublin's football games will continue to be played in Croke Park because of its large capacity, but otherwise, the plan is to play as many games as possible at grounds around the province. "We have some fine grounds so it makes sense to use them," said Delaney.

Meanwhile, Galway will be the last team to enter the 2011 All-Ireland FC race, playing their first game against Mayo or London in the Connacht semi-final on the weekend of June 25/26. That's eight weeks after the Connacht championship begins in Gaelic Park when New York host Mayo, underlining yet again the long drawn out nature of the provincial championships. Munster and Ulster have yet to announce their championship dates and venues.

Dooley, who recently agreed to continue as hurling manager for a fourth season after much deliberation, is furious that his team are being forced to travel to the Donnycarney venue on May 29 after they Offaly county board agreed to a Leinster Council proposal that all preliminary round and quarter-final ties be played on a home and away basis in 2011.

And as Dublin were first out of the draw drum, they are entitled to home advantage.

The Offaly management and players were also unhappy when the county board entered into a home and away arrangement with Wexford in 2009, which resulted in the Faithful County having to travel to Wexford Park where they suffered a seven-point defeat.

That sends out all the wrong messages.
I'd much rather hear a "We'll fight them on the beaches" tone, instead of reaching for the excuses switch 7 months before a ball is pucked.

I wonder was that sort of defeatest pessimism a factor in the less than fiery performance in Wexford Park in 2009?

I'm not sure what Joe is exactly railing against here. Home and away arrangements is a Leinster directive, it makes more sense since most counties want to maximise revenue for their own grounds, and Offaly perhaps stand to gain more than most since O'Connor Park needs games to pay the bills.

Does Joe disagree with all that and want to play every game in Portlaoise and Carlow from now until perpetuity? Or does he feel that there was something improper about the draw that saw Dublin get home advantage for the first game? As always, we don't get these details so God knows.

This Home and Away arrangment "for preliminary games and Quarter-Finals in 2011" is very vague. Does it mean that Offaly will only get home advantage against Dublin next time they meet if its in a Prelim or Quarter?? So a semi would be in a neutral venue?

Or does it mean that this arrangement stands for 2011 only and it was the luck of the draw? So if we draw Dublin in Prelim/Quarter in 2012 it will be back to a neutral venue or worse still a toss of a coin and we could end up in Parnell Park again??

I need some clarification PLEASE!!! Any chance the County Board could help us out?
