In Hulring we have 4 home games - Dublin, Waterford, Galway and Wexford with 3 away Cork, Tipp and Kilkenny
In Football 3 home, Wexford, Cavan and Tipp with 4 away Louth, Limerick, Westmeath and Waterford
Football is a tough ask to get up but in hurling we should be looking to win the 4 home games.

Re: National League Fixtures 2011
That's a fair bit of pressure on the first two games - if we don't take three or four points from those two, it'll be a long campaign with three awway fixtures on the bounce after that.
In fairness we were due four away games in the football, we've had four at home for a long time now. And thank feck we're spared another trip to Wexford. I am so sick of that trek.

Both the footballers and hurlers are due to play Waterford on the same day, at the same time, with the hurlers playing in OCP and the footballers in Waterford. Does anyone in the GAA have any kind of cop on?

From a hurling point of view we can be happy enough with that.
Nothing to fear from any of the teams coming to OCP.

Re: National League Fixtures 2011
Didn't notice that. I wonder would you get anywhere going to a county like Cavan and suggesting that if the OY vs Wat football is held in OCP, then Waterford can play Cavan at home and we'll travel to Breffni Park. Realistically we should be a bigger threat that Waterford so Cavan might go for that, while Waterford too would get more supporters for their footballers because the hurling crowd would be there anyway.ditchhurler wrote:Both the footballers and hurlers are due to play Waterford on the same day, at the same time, with the hurlers playing in OCP and the footballers in Waterford. Re: National League Fixtures 2011
They've gone away from the 'play a county at home one year - travel there the next', I'd say largely to facilitate Tipperary hosting kilkenny under lights in round 1 again. Remember that was snowed off last year.
Going on last year's venues, Offaly would have expected to travel to Dublin, Wexford (who replace Clare) and Tipperary, while hosting Kilkenny, Cork, Galway & Waterford.
They've been handed home ties against Wexford, Dublin, Galway and Waterford, while having to travel to Cork, Kilkenny and Tipperary. I'll drink to that. The matches they would really target are at home now.
Dublin have 3 matches at home again (Tipperary, Galway & Kilkenny). Wait for the inevitable outcry - it's a familiar hobby horse of Martin Breheny in particular. Wexford have only 3 at home too (Waterford, Dublin & Cork). At least no-one has to travel twice in the first two rounds as Offaly had last year.
2011 NHL Division 1 fixtures:
Rd 1: Tipperary v Kilkenny (Sat.), Galway v Wexford, Cork v Offaly, Waterford v Dublin

Rd 6: Galway v Tipperary, Offaly v Waterford, Wexford v Cork, Dublin v Kilkenny
Rd 7: Cork v Dublin, Tipperary v Wexford, Waterford v Galway, Kilkenny v Offaly

In all fairness this is a very winnable group with this set of fixtures. Good momentum should be built up from the early home matches and the squad bolstered heading to two winnable away matches. Another home match and then two away matches. Promotion should be sealed before the last trip to Mullingar.
If the players aren't looking at these fixtures relishing the challenge then it's time to give it up
