See B Gavin down to referee 2 games at the same time at 2 different venues! Amazing what intercounty standard refs can do!

Ferbane 3-7 - 1-10 Gracefield

Brutal game of football between two teams who were fighting for their lives in the Senior Championship.

Gracefield got off to a flying start and were 0-5 - 0-1 up after 10 minutes but a mistake from Johnathan 'Jogsy' Knight in the Gracefield goals let Ferbane in for a goal. Another goal soon followed and Ferbane found themselves 2-1 - 0-5 up. Ferbane tagged on two more points before half time and Gracefield added a goal which had a huge slice of luck involved in it.

Half time: Ferbane 2-3 - 1-5 Gracefield

The second half was as poor of football I have seen all year. You could tell both teams were fighting to avoid relegation. Ferbane added four points in the second half and a late goal confined Gracefield to a relegation play off.

With Gracefield needing a big favour from Clara to qualify for the quarter-finals and needing a win themselves, they were intent on going for goals in the last 15 minutes but after Clara having a big win over Croghan, if Gracefield had just taken their points, they could be celebrating a place in the quarter-finals tonight, but overall probably didn't deserve a place in the last eight.

So it's relegation play-offs for our men, hopefully we will stay up because I have a feeling it could take us a while to get back up to Senior if we are relegated.

Hugely relieved after that. I'd be lying if I said that I was impressed by the standard of football in O'Connor Park tonight, albeit there were flashes of quality from both teams, but nothing consistent and plenty of errors. Countless needless giveaways, Bad shot selection on our part and ridiculous attempts to walk the ball into the net from Gracefield. That game could easily have gone either way and that first goal was huge psychologically since we had missed a lot of chances up to that point and we were losing our way.

I don't expect miracles in the quarter finals but the relegation playoffs is not a nice place to be and we needed to avoid them since bad momentum is a terrible thing. Just as I'd have worried for us if we were there, I would be genuinely worried for Gracefield too. Of the 1-10 that they scored, 1-8 was easily attributable to bad errors on our part. Now of course every team makes mistakes, including the Rhodes and Claras out there, but that's still very little by way of created stuff from Gracefield. They're a big part of Offaly football and they belong at senior, but they've a lot of work to do right now.

Rhode V Ferbane.
Clara V Tubber
Shamrocks V Ballycumber
Tullamore V Walsh Island.
One result from tonight's SFC stands out.
Erins Rovers 6-4 Edenderry 0-11. Bad night for a big club like Edenderry.

Ballycumber 1-12 Tubber 0-12
Tubber kicked a lot of wides in this one and really should of won it. Ballycumber were quite accurate with Rory Guinan scoring a fair bit. Expect Tubber to be beaten comfortably enough by Clara in the quarters. I reckon Shamrocks will get by Ballycumber aswell as Dunne and Ward will be able to put up a good score against that defence.

well with the dust finally settling on the championship the cream is rising to the top.. as expected there were no real shocks in either group and the top 4 sides advanced.. clara are in my opinion front runners for the dowling cup and they are worthy front runners.. so far this year they have blown away any team they have came up against with a swashbuckling fantastic brand of football.. at the minute they would be ahead of rhode in the hunt for the dowling cup.. claras younger more energetic and faster brand of attacking football should see off a ageing rhode team if the were to meet later in nthe championship.. without a doubt the tie of the quaters sees walsh island take on tullamore.. the town men have been goin well this year but lately have stutered to defeats against clara and more lately shamrocks.. the island also have been stutering lately with 2 draws and a defeat in there last 3 matches.. this match has the making of a classic.. if walsh island preform to their ability the should see of the men from tullamore however history has proved that when tullamore get to the latter stages the are renowned for grinding out results and they should do it again here by stopping walsh island from playing;. the last quater sees near neighbours shamrocks kick off against ballycumber..after a bad start to the campaign the shamrocks clubmen are gaining momentum now.. after 2 bad defeats to clara then ferbane shamrocks looked on the ropes and their tenure as one of the front runners for the dowling cup looked dead and buried.. howevr 3 gutsy performances have seen shamrocks leapfrog from last place in the group to second.. although shamrocks have notably appcenties in the coughlans, molloy and so on the are hitting form aat the right time.. ballycumber will have rory guinan and colm quinn for firepower and with a former ballycumber manager in charge of shamrocks this makes for some match.. shamrocks should prevail here to reach yet another semi..

my predictions are
rhode vs ferbane. rhode should come through here but it will be tight always is between these two.. i wouldnt be suprised if ferbane were to knock the favourites out and blow the championship wide open..
clara vs tubber.. clara to win by double figures.. and show why they are the best in the county..
shamrocks vs ballycumber.. shamrocks by 4-6 points in a tense affair..
tullamore vs walsh island.. tie of the round howevr the town to grind out a victory by 1-3 points and march on to the last 4..

isit open draw for the semis??

Well its the business end now. All the Mickey Mouse games over with.

Id fancy Rhode, Clara, Shamrocks and Tullamore to reach the semi finals.

Rhode and Clara without question the teams to beat. Shamrocks should get over Ballycumber and Tullamore even though they have been terrible in the last two games you would still expect them to get their act together. They have such a pick of players it is crazy they are struggling so badly. They were attrocious against Clara and a very depleted Shamrocks beat them at the weekend although the history of games between them is generally a Shamrocks win in group stages in what is always a very close game. WI will give them one hell of a battle and with the Blues current form an upset would not be a major shock but you would still think Tullamore will do enough.

Does anybody know when the quarter finals of Senior and semi finals of the Junior are scheduled for?

I heard on Saturday evening that the Senior quarter finals will be scheduled for the weekend of the 11th and 12th. I presume two games on Saturday and 2 on Sunday?

Tullamore 0.14 Walsh Island 1.6.
Absolute Shite, dire awful stuff, Island never turned up until the second half, Half time. o.11 to 0.2 to the blues, early in second half it was 0.12 to 0.2 before Island shook themselves and at least woke most of us up to get back to within 3 points, Willie Mulhall scoring the Island goal before Tullamore got the last couple of scores of the game, Shane Dooley the star for the blues hitting 7 points, 4 from play he hit a couple of beauty long range frees out of the hands in the first half too which only few players can actually master.
scorers, Tullamore, S DOOLEY 0.7, K WILLIAMSON 0.4[2 FREES], R MONAGHAN 0.1, J O' DONOGHUE O.1[45] G.WARD 0.1
WALSH ISLAND, W.MULHALL 1.2, RORY CONNOR 0.1,RORY GALVIN 0.1, COLM MULHALL 0.1, ADRIAN KELLY 0.1.

Shamrocks 2.10 Ballycumber 0.10
Not quite as crappy as the first game but not far off, jaysus the standard of club football in the county this year is really low, Half time 0.6 to 0.3 in favour of Ballycumber, it looked like it was going to go to the wire but a dreadful error from corner back Richard Dunne who went up for a ball one handed amazingly with not a sinner near him ,of course failed to hold it knocked it into the path of PJ Ward who didn't look a gift horse in the mouth and finished it to the net, Ballycumber tried hard to get back into it and missed a couple of goal chances themselves and basically that was the difference between the teams, when Ward got his next goal chance from another error he finished brilliantly again to wrap it up.
SCORERS, SHAMROCKS PJ WARD 2.4[2.2 FROM PLAY] NIGEL DUNNE 0.3[1 FROM PLAY] LEONARD MOONEY 0.1, BRIAN MONAGHAN 0.1, RORY KEARNEY 0.1.
BALLYCUMBER COLM QUINN 0.4 [3 FROM PLAY]RORY GUINAN 0.5 [2 FROM PLAY]KEITH LAWLOR 0.1.
Colm Quinn was superb yesterday with a couple of terrific points, never lost the class, great vision and never wastes a ball, a great loss to the county when he left the panel a few years ago due to no fault of his own.
