Deepest condolences to the Daly family, Tullamore, on the death of Shane.
A great Gael, he represented the Blues at all levels, winning (I believe) Dowling Cup medals in 2000 and 2002.
A fiery wing-forward who loved a confrontation, he was very much the type of player you'd hate to play against, but who you'd love to have on your side.
May he Rest in Peace.

Re: Shane Daly R.I.P
Shane Daly was a talented footballer in his own right and a valuable member of the 2002 team in particular. My abiding memory of him as a footballer is a booming long range point he scored to seal a must-win round robin game against Shamrocks that year. I'm not one for hyperbolé, but it was among the best and most memorable points I've seen in O'Connor Park and was probably the only bit of class shown in what was otherwise a turgid game that evening.
More importantly, my memory of him as a person - and I wouldn't claim to have known him well by any stretch - is that he was a very friendly individual who always greeted you with a nod, smile and hello. It's only a simple gesture but can go a long way to discerning someone's likeability. And whatever issues Shane may have had, he certainly was likeable. Anyone I've spoken to over the last few days would hold that view as well.
I'm pretty sure there's a picture of the 2002 team in Digan's bar in Tullamore. It's just desperately, desperately sad to think that the chain has already been broken barely eight years later.

Awful news.
Shane was a very decent fella who would always acknowledge you when he was out and about.
He was a committed player on the field and not afraid to get stuck in with the bigger lads for a man who was quite light and lean.
No way of rationalising things like this when that happens or in the years after - it makes no sense no matter what way you look at it.

A tragic loss.
Marked him a couple of times and was a very tricky customer, with plenty of pace and lovely right foot.
Deepest sympathies to all of his family and loved ones.

I can't claim to know the fella but I've had a few dealings with the father and a couple of his siblings including Cathal. They're all really solid, down to earth, genuinely nice people and I'm sure Shane was no different.
My deepest sympathies to Shane's family, friends and loved ones and I hope he finds his peace.

All of Tullamore/Offaly who knew Shane will miss him as he was such a lovely lad.
It was an honour to know him and I know what a lovely family the Dalys are which makes this such a trajedy.
I played a lot with Shane in both codes and he was a fiery character but a pleasure to play with and to socialise after.
Even though it was a long time since we played together he would always salute you on the street or in Eugenes and we'd have a few words and catch up.
We all hope you are at peace now and will continue to keep your family in our thoughts and wishes to help them grive your loss.
Rest in peace Shane
