Leinster JHC Club Final

Post by Square Cab »

Just hoping someone can clear up something for me........Edenderry are supposedly contesting the Leinster Junior Hurling final this Sun but on Hoganstand it shows that a Kilkenny club the Black & Whites beat a Dublin team last sunday to claim the LJHC thus making it a clean sweep for Kilkenny clubs in the Leinster club champ. What competition are Edenderry competing in? Is it some sort of 'B' competition??

Its the Junior 'Special' Leinster Championship. I think its where some of the weaker counties are allowed field their intermediate winners. Either way best of luck to the Reds......flying the flag for hurling in the east of Offaly

i think each of the 12 counties in leinster can nominate one team to enter this competition . the team does not necessarily have to win their respective county championship or be a junior team either. some intermediate teams are involved and some senior teams have been entered in the past by weaker counties so that is why edenderry, who were beaten in the county semi final this year, are involved

It's a bit more complicated than that. As the standard of hurling varies, counties enter their teams at various levels. However it is always the champions unless they are not eligible and the nest best team represents the County, as in Edenderry's case where the winners already had a senior team as did the runners up, therefore the next placed team eligible were the REDS

Best of luck by the way. Not sure if the winners, like Killurin go on to play in Europe

The Leinster Snr Hurling Championship has the Senior winners from
Kilkenny
Wexford
Offaly
Dublin
Westmeath
Laois

The Leinster Intermediate Championship includes Intermediate champions from some counties and seniors from others
Kildare - Snr Champs
Meath - Snr Champs
Carlow - Snr Champs
Wicklow - Snr Champs
Wexford - Inter Champs
Kilkenny - Inter Champs

The Leinster Junior Championship includes Junior champions from some counties and Senior & Intermediate from others
Louth - Snr
Kildare - Inter
Kilkenny - Jnr
Westmeath - Inter
Carlow - Inter
Meath - Inter
Wexford - Jnr
Wiclow - Inter
Dublin - Inter
Laois - Inter
Offaly - Inter

The Leinster Special includes the Junior Champions from Counties that chose to enter their intermediates in the Junior Chamionship and the Snr champions from the weaker counties
Offaly - Junior
Kildare- Junior
Laois - Junior
Dublin - Junior
Wicklow - Junior
Meath - Junior
Longford - Snr
Louth - Inter

Beaten by 6 points I'm afraid.

Better team won on the day.
