John Knight started against Carlow replacing Lonergan, even though he was struggling himself

I'm not sure about your first line - you seem to be fairly well versed on the ins and outs of the club. All of a sudden I'm feeling very conscious of my years out of the county!Silken Thomas wrote:Fair enough L.S. I'll offer the fact that you have forgotten more about Ferbane football than I will ever know.
If you say that Ferbane are no better than or worse than other teams for holding their best players I will take your word, and no that isn't a subtle little slieght!
I was just thinkingabout the topic and down through the years I saw the likes of;
Tom Gilligan
Richard Guinan
Michael Daly
Aidan Wynne
Gary Sheridan
Disappear or fail to come through properly for various reasons. I'm sure you could name more![]()
Ferbane is not the bermuda triangle of underage talent but it could do with a nice swift one to the posteriorI'm sure you will agree

If this droprate is normal. Fine. You're probably the most qualified on the board to call it.

I'm not saying we've done stuningly well, but two of those list there are still playing, albeit with the juniors, one is out of the country and another is playing professional sport elsewhere so couldn't play. I wouldn't debate for minute that if this was Doon or Tubber the lads would have been playing senior football earlier out of necessity and thus might have stuck at it or put more effort into it, but I don't think a town like Ferbane will ever have that kind of retention.
Perhaps things could be handled differently I suppose - you are opening my eyes here a bit, no two ways about it. Strikes me as a potentially interesting study for the paper perhaps.
No question but we should have junior C. Agitation in that direction will commence towards the end of the year.Silken Thomas wrote:Still think Ferbane should pay the grand needed to have a Junior 'C' team. Hey if Shamrocks and Ballycumber can do it.
And likewise still think Ferbane could be in trouble this year. The senior tide has risen in the last couple of years and I'm not sure Ferbane are the greatest swimmers...
I expected the Ferbane posters to pick up on this. I'm slightly in awe that someone fifty miles away at the far end of the county managed to do. Seriously - should I know you? Aside from being the Earl of Kildare of course....Silken Thomas wrote:

Lads, I think we're going to have a Tyler Durden (Fight Club) moment of realisation here.

And Magpie, I can assure you that another alter ego is the last thing I need. I already have people who I knew before this website ever existed referring to me as Shark. If I was to keep adding more personas, I wouldn't just be able to have a Tyler Durden style incident, I could have my own Royal Rumble...

Actually, now you've got me curious LS. Where does your user name come from?
And to the rest of yee, I've seen similar threads on other forums, so where and what are the origins of your user names? Off the top of my head, BNMM, POTH, Muck Savage, Rat, Arbarg, azoffaly, Rocket, Silken...what's in a name?
For those of you as un-original as me, I think we know where and what your names derive from.

My name does not, as some people thought originally, imply some big headed idea that I knew everything (A-Z) about Offaly gaa. It's much more mundane than that.
When I started posting on the GAA Board, back around 1997 or 1998, I was living in exile in Arizona, (AZ) and hence I just merged the names. Nearly as boring as 'magpie'

Silken Thomas was, amongst other things, a young, rebellious aristocrat with anti- English sentiments who would have eventually inherited land all over Leinster and especially the pale. Received the nickname Silken for his followers fine taste in clothes which included Silken wigs. Was also known as……
Lord Offaly!
Read about this and it interested me.
I have been reading the board for years as people might tell and always said I would use the pseudonym if I ever wanted to post. Which I did.
Always wanted a unique name rather than the run of the mill kind of stuff like Biff, Biffster and Biffing Around The Clock etc.
Apologies to the mono-syllabic amonst you

Now Magpie I ask of you kindly to tell us the deal with Kieran O' Meara or is this medium too open?

Nothing crazy - just a derivation of the actual shark itself which was the root of it all once upon a time. Unfortunately said shark hasn't made too many appearances in recent years. We may have to revisit that next month....The Magpie wrote:Actually, now you've got me curious LS. Where does your user name come from?
