Birr once again lived dangerously in this Sunday evening match in Rath, trailing by 7 points at one stage in the 2nd Half shortly after the Shinrone goal. They retrieved the situation through a combination of upping their game somewhat and panic from the Shinrone players towards the end.

The Hanniffys were badly missed by Birr and very few of their players impressed for most of the contest. Paul Cleary was a rock throughout and Brian Mullins was steady. DD hit 5 points from play but wasn't as dominating as that scoring would indicate. Until the final salvo all of the Birr scores were coming from Simon frees or sporadic DD contributions.

Brian Whelehan picked up a knock in the 1st half and spent the 2nd half at full forward, bringing a great save from Tomas Brereton from an over the shoulder slap shot and also setting up another player (Liam Power?) for a walk-in goal which was disallowed for Square Ball or Handpassing to the net or some such reason. Dylan Hayden played in the Backs, marking Diggy in the 1st Half.

Shinrone played their hearts out and only wilted towards the end. Willie Comerford, Michael Cordial, Danny Hoctor and Eddie Bevans contributed well but it was a very even team performance from young and old with the likes of Darren Crean, Aidan Cleary, Martin Keeshan and Mark Bevans having their moments.
