Leinster championship dates and venues

The dates and venues for next year’s Leinster football and hurling championship have been announced.

The football championship will get underway a week later than usual in keeping with the new four-week ’window’ between the end of the National Leagues and the start of the championship. Midland rivals Westmeath and Longford will be first into action at Pearse Park on May 13.

The two other first round matches, Kildare v Meath and Louth v Wicklow, will be staged as a double-header at Croke Park on May 20. The winners of the Kildare v Meath clash will face provincial champions Dublin in the quarter-final at the same venue on June 3.

All-Ireland hurling champions Kilkenny’s first outing will be against either Laois or Offaly at Portlaoise on June 10.

2007 Leinster SFC and SHC dates and venues:

Senior football championship – May 13: Westmeath v Longford, Pearse Park; May 20: Louth v Wicklow, Meath v Kildare, both Croke Park; June 2: Laois v Westmeath/Longford, Tullamore; June 3: Dublin v Meath/Kildare, Wexford v Louth/Wicklow, both Croke Park; June 10: Carlow v Offaly, Portlaoise; June 24: Wexford/Louth/Wicklow v Laois/Westmeath/Longford, Dublin/Meath/Kildare v Carlow/Offaly, both Croke Park; July 15: Final, Croke Park.

Senior hurling championship – May 27: Laois v Offaly, Tullamore; June 9: Dublin v Wexford, Kilkenny; June 10: Kilkenny v Laois/Offaly, Portlaoise; July 1: Final, Croke Park.
