More than an outside shot. It’s as simple as Offaly beating Down and Cavan beating Westmeath and we’re up!
Fermanagh v Westmeath at 6pm this evening
Westmeath v Tipperary in last game.

Need Westmeath and Fermanagh both to drop points and then if we beat Down, we go up.

Antrim beating Cavan should mean that Cavan should be up for that one. Westmeath will beat Tipp at home in the last game so really it’s down to hoping Fermanagh beat or draw with Westmeath this evening.

Fermanagh have already beaten Westmeath today, Westmeath are on 6 points and can’t be promoted now.

So Cavan beat Fermanagh and we beat Down. Whilst Cavan are already promoted, I’m sure they won’t want to lose two weeks in a row.

Yeah Cavan are already up.

Fermanagh will also go up with a draw or win against Cavan or if Offaly don’t beat Down

Offaly need to beat Down and Cavan to beat Fermanagh

All other teams can’t be promoted

The only incentive for Cavan to beat Fermanagh apart from the rivalry is they could potentially face Offaly in the league final instead of Fermanagh again

Need to finish with Fermanagh only on 10 points to get up on head to head as I see it. It's quite possible with a win v Down, who will also be in with a shout possibly. Fermanagh needing result against Cavan who could be promoted given pts difference etc, is also significant.

Great win today in difficult circumstances.

Down have no shout, Down can only finish on 10 points and they don’t hold the head to head over either Cavan or Fermanagh.

Cavan will already be promoted which you would think gives an advantage to Fermanagh but equally Down can’t be promoted which should advantage Offaly.

Either way, all we can do is beat Down and hope for Cavan to win.

Only got to listen to the game on the radio today.

Couple of points.

Duffy seems a capable GK but has more than once this campaign but the frighteners up his defenders. I'm not sure if its game intelligence or what, but perhaps needs to be better able to know when to go long and when the short ball is on. Our lack of natural ball winners around the middle 8 may be influencing him to kick short more often. Has bailed us out more than once this year with saves. While Dunican may fit the mould of the modern goalkeeper better with his willingness to take the ball out the field, Duffy has done a decent job all things considered. Perhaps needs to develop more of a relationship with his midfielders to progress kick out options and tactics.

We seem to have locked down our starting 6 defenders for the forseeable. Notwitstanding a couple of abscentees due to injuries and lads who didn't commit this year, whats togging out between 2 and 6 are doing a great job. The profile is lads who are built for speed and no little athleticism. While there are no 6'5 monsters, they seem fairly capable in their matchups. Would be excited about this unit getting exposure to summer football on hard ground where they would be able to put their markers on the back foot constantly. Hopefully they commit for the next couple of years and benefit from additional S&C.

Jack McEvoy seems to have been a real find this year and regardless of whatever talent returns in the coming months or years, he's done more than enough to justify at worst a squad place. Another lad who I think would benefit from high level S&C; hopefully he commits to the cause.

The forward unit is an interesting one. Ru Mac, anton and hyland are starters when everyone is fit. Allen, on form, is worth a start but probably needs to work on delivering consistently. Maher and Dunne are as much of a physical presence that we have available right now and thought they did alright today based on what I listened to. Would be interested in seeing Evans get a run at things when fit, i think he offers a similiar level of physicality with a bit more dynamism/athleticism than dunne or maher.

Cian Farrell is still to come back. The few minutes here and there are no harm, a hungry farrell will be as good a forward that there is at this level come summer time. Would like to see Shane Tierney, similar profile as Allen, a natural score getter.

It must have been a rough week for a lot of lads. I'm sure the relief at the final whistle was overwhelming. I think its an Offaly team to be proud of, they are giving 100% any time they go out.

Cavan are promoted. Longford and Tipperary are relegated. Offaly and Down are both on8 points. Fermanagh are on 10 points, along with Cavan, Cavan have a better score difference.
If Offaly beat Down on 26th, they are on 10 pts. Provided Cavan win, Offaly are promoted, as we beat Fermanagh. If Cavan and Fermanagh draw , both are promoted to Div. 2. They would hardly play for a draw?

They could play for a draw but won’t, if Cavan beat Fermanagh and Offaly beat Down then Cavan get to play Offaly in the league final instead of Fermanagh which I assume they’d prefer. The league final matters as whoever wins gets ranked higher and could potentially qualify for the All-Ireland knockout stage.

There will be no All Ireland for any of the 3 counties unless they reach the provincial final, depending on league finishing they will be number 15 and 16 based on the final league position. As Westmeath are going to be in the AI from winning the Tailteann Cup and a team from Connaught who will reach the provincial final it is highly unlikely either Cavan, Fermanagh or Offaly will be playing in the All Ireland series this year.

I said “potentially” and that’s what it is. If Westmeath reach the Leinster Final then the spot reserved for them as Tailteann Cup winners will go to the Division 3 League final winners.

Also in that scenario, if Cavan/Fermanagh beat us in the league final but then get to the Ulster provincial final, we’d get in to All Ireland series as the next best ranked team.

Clare and Limerick relegated to Div 3 both have big chance to reach Munster final, if either can beat Cork

To use a well known phrase of a drowning man clutching at straws .
We have improved whatever happens an awful second half performance against Westmeath will probably
Cost us promotion. But that is life .
Mind you should have beaten Cork last year so this conversation would be academic..
Let's beat down! let the gods take care of the rest .
