The capacity right now would be around 24,000 - I'd fully expect that to be filled, notwithstanding the awkwardness of pods etc. This is the biggest game that either county has had for more than a decade - probably the best part of two decades for Offaly, though you could make a case for the 2004 Leinster SHC final.

Thurles is no closer to either, much trickier for traffic, and no trains etc. Portlaoise is likely too small, and I'd actually imagine that if the game does get moved, Pearse Stadium in Galway would be in the mix, given that the larger capacity there would probably mean you could put the guts of 10,000 people in under current rules. Now that's a desperate place to get in and out of, but if it goes anywhere other than CP, I'm struggling to think of anywhere that would be ahead of it in the queue.
Notwithstanding how important this game is to both counties, would they really allow an U20 football final go ahead on its own in Croke Park? Has that ever happened before?

Not that I'm aware of, but there was never a situation before where there wasn't plenty of other options to house a crowd of 15 or 20 thousand.

It’s an interesting one alright, I guess another question would be does the 24,000 still stand for the U20’s alone? The reason it was 24,000 in the first place was because the Minister got agreement for the four senior semi finals...

Lone Shark wrote: Sun Aug 08, 2021 1:13 am It's genuinely hard to know. Why certain games are singled out for larger attendances and others aren't, has not at all been properly explained. I'd say, like most decisions these days, it's political. If there's huge demand and a fuss will be kicked up if that demand isn't met, then the 1/3 guideline seems to be in play. If it's a humble club game, such as next Saturday's finals in Birr and Tullamore, the absence of political pressure seems to mean that lower limits apply.
Great point above. Government have been a shambles with this (and many others) issue. No clarity whatsoever.

It would be very hard to pull back on that number, given that it had previously been promised. The GAA supporter reaction would be "ye said 24,000 in Croke Park was fine, now nothings changed".

Interesting to hear this morning on the wireless that the Tyrone v Kerry game could be pushed back by one week due to covid issue in Tyrone set up! Could we have a stand alone all Ireland under 20 final in HQ next Sunday!!!!

Looking likely at this stage :P
Hopefully the ticket price will be amended also, can be an expensive day for a family with €50 a ticket

From Offaly GAA: The Offaly v Roscommon All-Ireland U20 Football final will go ahead on Sunday in Croke Park at 1.30pm.

The Senior semi-final between Kerry & Tyrone has been postponed until the following Saturday.

There will be enough tickets for everyone who wishes to attend the U20 final

Delighted that everyone who wants to go will be able to. Especially for club members right throughout the county who are the heart and soul of the GAA.

I’m more so happy for the thousands of fans who haven’t been to a game in two years rather than the same few getting to go again...
